Ok;I took the floor out over the main diesel tank,(MCI-9). While I'm at this point, I would like to put in some siphons for fuel to accessories, like a generator, stove, heat, etc. That's a definite 3 items I can think of. I know they sell siphon kits(webasto, espar, etc.); but what are these kits? Do I have to buy theirs, or can I make my own? I see no problem drilling and tapping any pipe size thread at this time, but attaching a flange my be a problem. Can all 3 siphon off the same tube, say 1/4", 1/2",3/4" or 1"; or 3 separate 1/4" lines (3/4 of the way down the tank). Is copper okay, or will it need to be stainless steel? How would you attach the dip tube to the fitting? Then pipe from there? Also, what type of valves would one use? Any help would be appreciated. P.S. I also posted the other board |

havent tried it on my mci yet, but ive tapped into other tanks, using "bulkhead" type fittings.... these are threaded on both sides.... seal with an o-ring.... so you can "work" the fitting into the tank.... preference??? i'd use the "no-kink" brake line tubing... it bends easily...its mild steel, but stainless would be nice too.... size??? 1/2" is a big hole.... and would probably serve all your accesories....3/8 has about a 5/16ths or 1/4 hole, so it creats some restriction.... |

Hi ED, My choice would be three 1/4" lines to draw fuel from and one 1/2" line for the returns. When I tapped into the fuel tank on our 4106 for our 7.5 KW Onan Quiet Diesel generator I used brake line, as Jim suggests, and soldered it into a brass fitting which I threaded into the tank fill neck plate. I teed into the whistle fitting for the return line and I was all set. Where you want to fuel three items you could drill and tap the needed holes in a plate and drill coresponding holes in a convenient place in the tank and attach the plate to the tank with sheetmetal screws. I extended my tubes to within 3" of the bottom of the tank so I would never run out of fuel for the generator. When my tank gets down to 1/4 I start looking for fuel, because I ran out one time and I don't want to repeat that experience. Good luck. Sam Sperbeck La Crescent, MN |
