We've finally decided to put our 1952 GMC PD 4103 up for sale.
We need to clean it out and maybe clean it up a bit, but it's gonna go so we can finance a newer bigger bus.
This is a bittersweet decision. I really like this old girl, as ugly as she is, but she just isn't large enough for our needs anymore.
I've thought of lot's of ways to keep her, but the bays being only 22" tall and only a 35' coach, it's just not feasible for our needs. We did full time in her for about 6 years and she is in a state of total mess on the inside and needs to be stripped out and redone, so we'll sell her as a shell.
We get a solid 9 mpg in the hills and dales and have achieved 13.5 mpg on the flats for a couple of tanks of fuel.
She's slow, about 64 mph top end, but has tight steering and is easy to park, even with Armstrong steering.
When we get her cleaned out, we'll post in the BNO classifieds.

Dallas keep your eyes open the City of Houston is going to sell off the rest of their AN 345's they sold 30 a while back and most were well under 5000 all were series 60 and the B500.
They are going to be selling off 20 of the MCI D4500 in the future also I am in the pounce mode for those lol
Ot here but do you know Bob Oakman in Franklin that has a Eagle for sale I have a friend that may want you to check it out if he makes a deal

Well, dallas, it's the end of an era for the old girl and maybe the start of a new one also, but enough about kat, lets talk about the bus lol, I went thru the same mixed feelings as I looked at the revcon and the limited storage. knowing I would be finding a bus and starting a great adventure of a different sort, we had bought the revcon in the early 80's as a young thing only a few years old, it's a 1978 and it served us well and still does as we still have and use it from time to time, the iggle allowed us to explore the next dimension of rv'ing, I know this is all old news to you as this isn't your first or second rodeo, maybe not even your fifth or ninth, mainly cause your old as dirt but it's always heart wretching to see a chapter close, only you know where each drop of blood feel over the years and only you know each cursed feature that blighted the memory of that fine old girl that you love so dearly, dammit mon I have to remember to leave kat out of this lol. oh well, I forgot where I was going anyway. Carry on old chap.

Good luck to you Dallas. When we get ready to retire and full time, we are going to downsize our life to fit the bus not build a bigger bus so we can keep more crap. The only real problem is Barb's upright bass. If I could figure out a folding neck...for the bass not Barb!

John, as much as I want to keep the 35', It's just about impossible for my needs. I need to put my new wood working tools in one bay and a few of them cannot be broken down to less than 36-40" in any dimension.
If I had a good retirement plan, I wouldn't worry so much, but as it is, I'm going to have to work for a living for another 30 or 40 years, or until I'm at least 95.

Dallas,

Have you truly considered the alternatives? One would be to keep the bus and get a pick up and trailer that could serve as your wood shop. You would have to drive it instead of towing, but you could have a secure, fully functional woodshop when you get where you are going.

To me, the hassle of dragging tools out of a bay and setting up outside in all kinds of weather, having to secure everything just to run into town for a box of screws, etc., etc. would be overwhelming.

It doesn't matter how big your bus is, that's still a major PITA.

Good luck in however you do it.

Clifford, I've never met the guy, but then I don't get off the property very much. I will check with my bosses.. they seem to know everyone around here.

Len, I've considered the pickup and trailer route. The trouble is, the wife likes to ride in the bus so she can give me explicit instructions on where to go.... come to think of it, she tells me where to go even when we aren't traveling!
Seriously, I'm not sure how well the old 6-71 would pull a trailer of the size I would need, plus I have a plan for a set of sliding drawers that will set up into tables that can hold the needed tool of the moment. I'll try to attach a photo of a saw station that a guy on another forum I belong to built for his small shed. This is where I got the idea for a slider from a large bay.

DAL the 4103 or4104 will tow a lot, at one time Gray hound pulled huge loads behind them , with a full load of people and a enclosed trailer full of freight. the PO of my 4104 pulled an enclosed trailer with a pinto car and all his other stuff as he and his wife lived in it full time. they traveled all over around Canada ,the US, and Mexico. pulling the trailer . one time he pulled a motor home[27] ft with a small car behind it for over 200 miles out of Mexico to Bisbee AZ. and did no damage to the 4104. so a 20 ft enclosed trailer would be no trouble. just stop it so you are on level ground when you start up .

Dallas, Im with the trailer crowd on this. You already know and love what you have, stick with her. With all your expertise and imagination I am sure you could easily rig up a good hitch and pull a small trailer that had fold out sides with roll out HUGE drawers coming out the sides and back which would comfortably hold your shop stuff as well as give you a good work bench. I would bet that a carefully planned out and organized small 10 ft long trailer would actually give you more space then you would get with taller bays.

I would love to haul a trailer, but the new to us Taurus is untowable, (No Remco pump is made for it), so it would have to be on the trailer and then there's about 2,000 lbs of mechanics tools, and a growing pile of wood working tools.
At that rate, we'll need a 20' trailer and be pulling 7 or 8K easily.
I am almost certain that some of the hills in Alabama and Tennessee and Georgia we've been up with the bus, wouldn't have been possible with a 8,000 pound trailer. No matter how you stack it.. 6L71 with 160HP and 500 lb. ft. of torque that doesn't start well on an incline anyway, isn't gonna be fun to drive in the mountains.
If we get a newer larger more powerful setup, I'll still be pulling a trailer for the car, and I'll build the mobile shop storage on the front of it.
