I do a lot of experamenting on my 04.
Been thinking about putting a couple of 6" black pvc pipes about 20 or 25' long on the top, one on each side. It would hold more water not to mention it would heat up in the summer. Water weighs about 8lbs per gallon. What do ya think, other than I'm nuts.

Surface area is how the sun insolates the water.

You might consider looking in Home Power Mag for the std alt energy methods of creating hot domestic water, some methods have been used since the late 1800's.

Today an insulated box covered with E glass (lets the solar in but less out) would have a copper manifold soldered toigether and a tiny pump with thermostat would pump the cold water in , forcing the heated water to a holding tank , modified from a house std hot water tank.

This water ( like water from co generation with noisemaker) can be VERY DANGEROUS as it can easily be scalding.

There are special "anti Scald" valves that can be had from hospital or marine sources.

Great thinking out of the box, but no need to engineer from scratch , with dozens of OTS systems to buy or copy.

Would you really want all that weight on top of your bus? I thought the idea was to keep all the weight possible as low as possible, am I missing somthing?

You might also think about a 'bladder' type tank. It would collapse when empty (probably flap when under way.) This would be a large size of the popular and effective campers shower that is nothing more than a black plastic bag with a shower nozzel on it. Throw one of these on top of the tent all day and get a shower at the end of the day.I have also seen innertubes filled with water used for the same thing.
