I hate to slam my door and disturb the neighbors at 2 A.M. (I kept the "Bus" door on my 4905) so I drilled a small hole (# 43 bit?) about 1/2 in. to the left of the windshield center post, and 1/2 in. above the 'deck'. I ran a piece of stainless steel wire (carpenter's twine) through it and put a loop in each end. Now I drop the loop over the handle and gently push the door shut as I step out, outside I slip my finger in the loop and quietly tug it over-center to lock it. During the day, when not in use, pull it in and there is only the small finger-loop showing on the outside. I hated to drill the hole, for fear of water getting in, but so far that has not been a problem. No, I'm not going to put a 'house' door lock, so don't even suggest it. Cheers...JJ |

JJ You might think if installing a REAL truck doorlock, about 400% better than the RV crap , and you can lock it . The door can be set to lock on the truck goodies , without needing the over center coach lock to work' Works like a charm, we only use the overcenter lock to TIGHTLY close door to stop wind noise at 70. IF you need the parts list and drawing its on Tom Halls site , under my name. P/S the campground that wont have you is only 10 miles from my place , I always have an O'Nite spot, with 15A of 120V FAST FRED FAST FRED |

For Fast Fred,, I would like to see more on the truck latch, I have looked at the RV latches, and they are to wimpy, I like the heavy duty stuff, and I can tell by your posts that you do to. Where is Tom Hall's site? |

Dr. Long, the door release plunger hole is below the cowl line from the inside, and at the wrong angle to pull the handle shut. I looked at that first. There are many options on this, but the one I chose was for it's KISS factor. Cheers...JJ |

I can agree with you on keeping the original bus type door closure. My bus has a mid door and Prevost used a modified GM (truck) door latch. It is great except the time that I went to open the door and the latch broke. I had to call my wife on the cell phone to come let me out. Good thing my windows are big enough for emergency escape. Hate to have a fire and the latch break. I bet the original bus door mechanism never fails. (The arm inside the door had been brazed apparently when it broke for the previous owner. I welded it and I think it will last.) Steve Fessenden |
