I am changing from stick to a v730 I have a 4 1/8 to 1 rear axel with 1100x22.5 tires. Am I right with my numbers that I will only be able to run 66mph? I just got the manual on the V730. Can any one with a V730 in a 06 can you tell what kind of speed I can expect? Thanks Al

Al I have a 4106 with a V730 & 8V71. The rear
end is 4&1/8 and my bus will run about 72MPH
against the governor. This is by the speedometer
but I am going by alot of stuff at that time. The
tires are 12-22.5. I do not have a tach so I can't
tell you the RPM.
P.S. Pulling a VW Golf on a dolly too.

IF you keep the same rear [no choice its highest made} you usually LOOSE about 8mph due to the difference in the gearing.
The ONLY way to get some of the speed back ( besides killing the engine thur over reving}is to go to 12R24.5 with new wheels and tires.

Big bucks for 3 or so mph.

IF you wish to contemplate all the variables , go to this fellows web site , he has kindly created a speed/rpm calculator.

There is also an ongoing GM discussion at

where speed /rpm / lugging is being discussed.

You should be able to run 75 mph, will loose 3 mpg fuel , the gear is right where you need to be since it is a highway gear for the o6 and theres not a better one avail, there is a lot of opinions out there on this, but what i have told you is the truth period, 75 mph, 7 to 7.5 mpg and thats the way it is i have one . i think the 7/30 ruins a good bus , but it depends on how you look at it and what you are willing to trade off.
