Help,The rubber hinged on the compartment doors. What is the best way on getting the old rubber pices out. I had no trouble with the screws but the rubber will not move. I tryed everthing. The rubber hinged broke in half when I open the compartment. So I'm dealing with two tracks with rubber stuck in them. Thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!! |

WD40 will lossen them up. When you get them out clean the groves good and then use some liquid soap on the new ones. They will slip right in. |

I had to cut some of mine out. Use an exacto and just slice it to ribbons. Don't use petro oil to lube the new one though; I used vegi oil and it helped alot. Soap is good too but use plenty of it. |

Be sure to purchase the new rubber from someplace that gets fresh stuff! Have heard of old stock failing in only a few years , where new rubber will go a decade or more easily. JOY is great lube for sliding it in , AFTER you have removed the tiny tiny screws that are holding the hinge at each end.. A rifle cleaning brush is usefull to really clean & shine the groves before assembly. Beware of Gas springs as they are the demise of much of the failed hinge . If you need helper springs to just open the bay door it might be worthwhile to spring for the SS hinge.(Big Bucks) Stok GM fine works for me, FAST FRED |

I used a utility knife with a new blade. I sliced the center of the hinge up into several thin ribbons. After I was able to remove the pieces fro the center, the outer pieces came right out. Regards, Daris |

There is a guy up in Idaho that makes new hinges out of converyer belts. It's lifetime stuff. Worth the money and time because the other OEM stuff won't last long. We spent some time in a rest area replacing one of ours. We were lucky that we didn't lose the door. If you cn't find this guys name I will look it up for you. Neil |

You can go for the stainless steel hinges and make it your last replacement. The few people I know that did the bison tuff hinges, had them break as bad as the rubber ones! |

Wow, these are made specifically for the GMC models, and I am thinking they will NOT work on an MCI> |

They sure are, pieces of one. They are reformed so the center pivot of the hinge is also the center of the hinge (if that makes any sense to you) to duplicate the center hinge effect of the rubbers. They are also rolled on the outer edges so the roll goes into the round track on the door and coach. |

i put the sst hinges on some of my doors; they work great. the one i used are about 4" long. one thing i did was to try and install rubber hinge (RH) between the sst hinges (SH). i istalled a short section of RH, then a SH then a longer section of RH and so on till i ended up with 3 SH seperated by RH. Then i tried to install the door; wasn't going to happin! the SH has a fixed dimension while the RH flexs when the door is opened. i went ahead and installed my door with the RH installed in the bus track and hanging over the door track thinking "I'll fix this @#$%^&* thing later!" so i cut the lower part of the RH hinge off leaving the web section. know what? the RH seals the door section between the SH perfect! i'm going back & doing the same with my other doors. i'll see if i can find where i got my SH. it was from a real nice fella that makes them him self and offers all kinds of help and says he'd take them back if i didn't like them. also his are very thick gage SST. |

RCB, E-mail me direct & I'll send you a pic or two. The 4" SST hinge may still leak but the area between the hinges is sealed. I haven't knowticed any leakage from the hinges any way. Joe |
