I know some of you have these engines, and I reckon a few of you might want to have a look at these auctions. A look at past auctions' prices shows that they often sell for scrap price. Annoyingly, they are sealed bid auctions, but you might get lucky. All of these are in Hooks, Tx (Texarkana area). Auction starts 08/22/2011 and ends 08/24/2011.

There's 50 of them, looks like they all have a compressor and a hydraulic pump. Some have an alternator, but none have a starter or a flywheel. Minimum bid is a hundred and fifty bucks! Thanks Cullen! | ||

Got to be careful on which lot you buy some do make good engines PITA to install in a MCI or Prevost unless you have a old 8v92 you can use the cam, backplate,bell housing and aux gears from, none will have by pass blowers so that needs to be changed along with the turbo those are smokers and most are 435 hp with 1242# of torque @1400 you really need to be sure the turbo feeds from the lower left side front then you know they are A Sliver engine good luck | ||

I agree with Clifford. Changing a non-bus engine to a bus friendly engine is labor intensive. If you have one of those like the HEMET engine that was built with the battle setting injectors, it will end up costing you more to convert than if you bought a bare block and built it up from scratch. Wrong liners, wrong pistons, wrong rings, wrong cams, wrong blower, wrong turbo, wrong bearings, wrong bolt pattern on the bell housing, (I think), wrong oil pan, wrong oil pump, wrong oil pump pickup, wrong crank pulley and seals, wrong water pump, wrong INJECTORs, among other insignificant stuff. Would I use one? You betcha.... in a heartbeat, with the caveat that I would be doing all of the work myself and letting it sit until I found the right parts I needed to make it run the way I wanted. I wouldn't be buying the latest and greatest from DD... that's a fast way to spend money I don't have, but, if you could afford it, you might be happy with the power and the fuel mileage. | ||

I'd be careful for sure, but there's plenty of time left on this auction to do the research and find out which part numbers match your needs. Or heck, it might even be valuable to have as a core. |
