Just replaced both rads in my 9 old ones were getting pretty ripe. Now when I travel secondery roads the bus runs 175-180 when I try to travel on the highway bus runs hot. Any ideas what to check.

Thanks

Make certain all the seals around the radiator and the squirrel cage are intact, otherwise, no matter how much air the squirrel cages move, it ain't gonna help!

as Dallas says, including the access door contacts.

Like a religion, every little crack or space is stealing cooling capacity.

happy coaching!

Check for air in your water system, including the heater lines.
Is your fan belt tight?
Do you have shutters, and if so, are they operating properly?
Also very possible that there was debris in the system that started to circulate once you put the new radiators in that have wide open tubes. Now the water flow is higher so the stuff moved and now its sitting in the top radiator tanks blocking flow.

Just to add but if the rack is off on 1 side of a V engine they will heat big time, and you may have a water pump with impeller slipping on the shaft they are bad about the nut backing off

good luck

You also might want to remove the thermostats and check to see if they are the correct setting and also check to see if they open at the correct temperature.

Turbo the old girl and just blow that heat out the exhaust.

Anything under 205 won't hurt a 2 stroke, just don't take it from 215 to 150 in less than 15 minutes, shrinkage is what kills diesel hot rod engines and worn out 2 strokes.

If it don't spit the coolant out, the gauge lies or what ever it says probably doesn't matter.

2 stroke water temp gauges only mean something when they read 100 degrees or they read cold. The reason they read cold is because you have lost all the coolant.

If it's not spitting the coolant out and it's around 50%, just drive it and don't look at that gauge unless it reads cold if it does, shut it off immediately and do not add coolant until engine is cold and running.

Changed and threw away alot of thermostats, they live forever, look somewhere else.

Think there is a diff between my old NA 71 and TA 71 water pump. A 92 may fit and pump more flow, Clifford knows.

If you have a 7 pound system or even a 4 pound system, make sure the cap is keeping the pressure against the water so it can pass more heat to the air.

When you take the cap loose with a warm engine it should release pressure, you don't need to get it hot enough to burn you, it should build pressure almost as soon as the water pump starts turning.

If your impeller wheel is loose, it will fall off and stop pumping pretty soon. It will get hot and you will have to catch it pretty quick or something bad will happen.

They always ran hot.

Barry
You say the engine shuts itself down and doesn't blow out coolant. Have you checked the actual temperature with an infra red temp gun? You could have a faulty shut down switch. Don't remove the thermostats. DD like to run warm. As long as you are below 200 on the highway you are okay. Mine runs at 190+ and I will mist the rad if it gets to 200. This normally only happens when I am pulling my truck on the highway at 70mph.
