Recently bought an '87 102a2. Haven't made many changes to it other than removing some seats. We have driven on a couple of trips now and are experiencing a lot of wind noise at the front of the bus. Noise loud enough I have to lean forward from the front right passenger seat to hear the driver talk.

Is this normal? or is there something open that we should close, or caulk somewhere?

I just bought 1986 102a3 and drove it from LA back to British Columbia 1600 miles and was very pleased how quiet it was. No wind noise, I've owned 1973 MC-7 for 11 years it has a little wind around the door. It looks like the 102 has a new door gasket that probably makes a difference. Also make sure the air lock on the door is pulling it snug to body.

I apoligize to everybody...guess I don't say things correctly & it makes people mad....but...that is what I would do....get somebody else to drive the bus...and when the noise started ,I'd get up and move things around till I found out where the noise was comeing from, and see if I could make an adjustment..

The best way I've found to isolate interior wind noise is to get a piece of vinyl tubing about 1/4" ID, 3-4 feet long. Stick one end in your ear and use the other end as a "probe" and while someone else is driving, you can scan around everywhere and really pinpoint where it's coming from. Then filling the voids is a no brainer. Sometimes a lot comes from the most unsuspecting places. This makes it REALLY easy to find them!

Cheers

There are smoke bombs available that some RV Dealerships, like the one I used to work for, use for just this type of thing. Set it off inside with all windows and doors closed and go outside to see where the smoke comes out. If you have a Fantastic Fan type vent fan, use it to pull more air inside. A big boost to smoke exiting. FYI

On the 102A3 the problem may be that the top of
the door is not sealing to the door frame when it
closes. If the old weather seal is not able to
fill the gap after the door closes it will really
howl, whistle, scream and generally be obnoxious.

What is happening with that particular door is
that there is nothing at the top of the door to
hold it closed. When the bus is traveling down
the road the area at the front door is a low
pressure area and the door will pull out from the
door frame at the top.

It might be time to put new weather seal and foam
rubber gap filler on the door and around the door
frame. This should be a type that will let the
door close fully but able to expand to fill the
gap when the door tries to open at highway speed.

The newer 102 series and the J series that we have
at the garage all have a mechanism that drives
a wedge into the top of the door under air
pressure to hold the top shut when going down the
road.

Thanks, I'll try the tubing trick, may look for the smoke bombs too.

When I did get up and try to track it down, it doesn't seem to be coming from the door, seems to be more around the area of where the filter is by the stairwell. I'll use the tube trick to track it down further.

Didn't know if there was some vent that wasn't sealing tight, or it this was a normal thing.
