Hi all. My buddy Jim and I just got back from picking up my new bus, a 1986 Neoplan Metroliner. The bus was located in Tacoma, WA, which is 1500+ mi from me, so it was quite the trip up there to get it, and after picking it up and driving it back down to Roseburg, OR, we were pretty tired. at 6:00 pm or so i was pleased to see the front door still open at So Oregon Diesel, where we planned to drop it off to do all repairs and a thourough going over. I had been in touch with David while on the road and he knew we were on our way, so i think he had stayed late for us. We were pretty fried from the drive so we agreed to meet up in the AM to talk over the details of the work. I am very happy to report the motor seems very fresh, 6v92ta silver, starts right up, 10 sec of smoke, then none, no oil out of the air box drains, none, nada! the tranny works well, but the air shifter needed replacement contacts to work properly. Not a big deal i learned. She also has fresh tires all the way round. Happy happy! Friday morning we went back after a good nights sleep, (thank you motel 6 Roseburg, best 40 bucks i have ever spent), we went back to SOD for the details to be worked out. It was nice to meet and talk to David and Dennis, they are really nice people and know their stuff. We chatted about buses and a bunch of other stuff for quite a while. I saw some really pretty Eagles in the yard and one in the shop. There were a couple MCI's too and a really cool late 40's bus. I felt very comfortable leaving the bus in such good hands. i have friends and family an hour north of Roseburg, so it will be handy to drop back by every so often for a check up. I am really happy about my new bus. If you are ever in the area and need some work done on your bus, drop by Southern Oregon Diesel. You will be glad you did. It's a great place in a beautiful area.
PS- as you turn left out their driveway, keep going on the road to the Umpqua fish hatchery. Really cool!

And if you like getting your exercise while on trips, the fish hatchery is in easy walking distance. We would walk to the hatchery, go down it's stairs to look at the fish ladder. Then we climbed back up the 116 steps IIRC, and then walk and jog back to SOD.

We like SOD, too!
