I haave an 80 eagle conversion with a 6v92 turbo charged diesel. I lose power going up a hill. I start going up the hill 60mph, by the time I get half way up I'm doing about 35mph. I was told even if I had this one rebuilt it still would not have the power. I was also told that there is a later model 6v92 that is more powerful. Can anyone verify this? Would appreciate any input. Thankyou Tom

Tom
Sounds like tune-up time; more specifically a governor and rack adjustment. Another thing you could get checked is if the turbo is working properly. Also, check air cleaner, sometimes the really simple things can bite you.

There is no "later model 6V92TA that is more powerful"-- what you could do is take your bus to someone that knows what they are doing that can check your injector type and size and see if all you need is bigger injectors and a rack adjustment. Or possibly you are already at full power and just have to get used to slowing down on the big hills-- after all, you only have a 6V92TA, not an 8V92TA...

I down shift manually at 55MPH and this really helps.

You're 6v92 is not going to run w/ some of the newer big dogs using 450-500hp engines but there is no reason why it won't perform satisfactorily if properly set-up and tuned. Do as Geoff says; find a good DD mechanic and get advice from someone that knows his stuff. I have a bus with 6v92 set up for 325hp and I have no complaints with its' performance pulling 29k pounds, but it won't run up the mountain with my 8v92 500hp Neoplan even though it takes the down side at nearly the same speed. If the engine is sound then it is only a matter of finding a good DD mechanic and a few hundred dollars.

how long has it been since you changed fuel filters...that's always something pretty simple to do...and a DD that's not getting enough fuel...won't put out power

I know this probably is not PC, but a lot of the truckers that have 6v92t engines with the TT governor defeat the TT feature for the 350 hp rating. If you're careful, the fuel mileage doesn't suffer that much, and it does give you the extra 50 hp. If you want you can also raise the rpm while you're in the governor section for a little more shifting space (2400) rpm doesn't seem to hurt much of anything.
my 2 cents
