This is my first posting. I have a converted PD3751 that has been in our family since 1974. Mom and dad have both passed on and I have decided to bring "Easy Street" back to life. I am a heavy truck mechanic and have spent many hours in earlier years working on the bus for mom and dad, so I know her well. I plan to gut the inside and start all new again. Once gutted I would like to pull all the windows and any other appropriate items, strip the painted part of the body and get her repainted properly, then reinstall the windows. Does anyone out there have a source for the seal strip that goes around the outside of the window frames? The channel lock type rubber seals that hold the windshields and back glass is easy to get, but I have been unable to locate the seal strip for side window frames. I have looked at many manufactures websites to no avail. I think I can have some custom made, which is spendy, so was hoping someone had a source. I could also use some other body parts too if anyone knows of a parts bus. Looking forward to talking with folks. I'm located in Spokane, WA. |

Gilbert - Welcome aboard! Silversides are cool! For your seals, try Luke at US Coach in NJ. Matter of fact, memorize his number, he's a great source: 1-888-262-2434, M-F, 9-5 Eastern. Another source is Ted Campbell at Coach Maintenance in Williams, CA. I don't have his number handy, but Google "Coach Maintenance, Williams CA" and it will come up. Be aware, tho, that Ted's a night owl, so don't even attempt to contact him before 4 pm. Again, welcome aboard this crazy hobby! FWIW & HTH. . .

Welcome! Good to have another wrench added to the tool chest! Fast Fred had some rubber made up a few years back, massed an order between a few busnuts to spread the costs. If you order custom, get on here to recruit some partners! happy coaching! buswarrior |

Welcome to our Community where Coaches & their shortcomings are the focus of the people who own them. This is a bucket for learning & the fish you have surrounded yourself with, by entering our den of iniquity,, either have the knowledge or experience to save you plenty of heartache, money & sweat. Everyone here is a Bozo with a Bus who has been thru a wringer somewhere & wants to save or prevent you from doing the same foolish things we have wasted time & money on in the past. Keep in mind that ALL everyone here wants to do is to make your burden a bit lighter & make you a bit smarter than you would have been w/o us. And if ever there was truth to be found in the phrase "Misery LOVES company" it will be found here by the Bus Load ! ...when there isn't enough, we create some ! Bringing a 50+ year old Coach back to life is a daunting slog, we'll be here to see that you finish it & do so in the best way that experienced people can. Beside that there is always room for someone else with a "Pie in the Ride" attitude.... Welcome aboard, find a dancin partner, kick-up your heels... and enjoy your experience, when you look back you'll find that what you gained was worth far more than the price of admission. You & "East Street" have found the easier road back to her abilities, usefulness & value. As a guy who has a similar family history of "Bussin" it is a pleasure to have your company & experience ! |

As I recall top speed was 63mph. We know the history of the unit back to Greyhound. Counting Greyhound, we are the fourth owner. The bus never went to a secondary carrier, it went directly to private ownership from Greyhound in the late 50's. It has an early high block engine that has narrow air box ports and originally had a 2 valve head. I rebuilt the engine in the early 80's replacing almost everthing in it except the crank. It now has a 4 valve head. I played mix and match with the liners and pistons and came up with some liners that had slightly taller ports than the air box and then used N series pistons. Also advanced the cam one notch as I recall. It definately had a lot more snoot than the original build of the engine. We used to have 2 parts buses, but dad got rid of them when they moved to N. Idaho - wish I had one now. I'll try to post some current pictures. Thanks for the info on parts sources. |

Nice! Tim comes here, lives in Ohio has some buses and parts they are out there. bet some near you somewhere. I will shoot an email to Mike who redid the bus before we got it, he might have a lead on the window rubber. He did a great job on this one. Ironically i cant post pics on this site due to major computor incompitance. Our Silversides is a movie star in appearance. The one is the profile is a 3703 |
