Had something unusual happen. While I was driving my 1981 MC-9 to a friend's shop for some work, the speedometer, which has always been very reliable, began reading faster than I was traveling. The needle would begin to "bounce" up, never dropping below speed, and would float at a higher speed for a while. Then it would drop back down and read fine for a while. This happened several times, sometimes floating as high as the needle could go. As much as I'd like to brag that my bus can go 80 mph, I don't think I've ever had her much above 70, and was traveling at 65 mph while it was doing this. The speedometer says MCI on it, although I don't think it is the original because it has colored markings on it (every other guage has only white) and the mileage on the odometer is certainly low for a former Peter Pan coach. Any ideas on what the problem is? Solutions? |

sensor for speedometer should be on the left front wheel, there will be something on the brake drum to sense, mine has bolts 1/4 of the way around, probly just need to set the clearence between the sensor and the bolts Frank Allen |

Mark, We had similar problem on our MCI, It turned out to be chaffed wire near wheel. Caused more pulses than actual every time it bounced. Was hard to locate. It was laying on some metal and looked OK until lifted up. After fixing works fine again, Jock Fugitt |

I have a comparable problem that the longer I drive my mci 8 the slower the speedo reads. When I start out it will read accurately up to topping out the governor at 73 mph, but after a couple of hours it is down to reading about 56 or even less on long drives. Any ideas? Rob Talbot |
