Hi;
I'm buying a bus in Virginia, has a Florida Tag and Title, but the tag has expired. Will be driving it back to Florida, the owner would like to me pick it up this weekend, but I must be back by Wednesday ( work ) and will have no time to get a tag, via FedEx. I will have all the required insurance, bill of sale, title, etc. Does anyone know the law concerning this.
Thanks
Bill

Bill,
When I bought mine Eagle in Seattle I got insurance, and got a temporary tag in order to drive it back to Alabama. Never even had anyone look at it as far as I know. Good luck, and be careful with all this weather.

Congratulations !

Bill,

Most states will issue a transport permit. This is usually good for 10 days (give or take). You would obtain this from the state where you purchased the bus, not your home state.

Good luck

Bill,
If you are going to tag it in Florida and have have current address, not a P.O., Box you can take your paperwork to your local Florida DMV and get a temporary tag. If the bus is still commercial they will issue you a temp tag to get it weighed for an RV tag. Make sure you show proof of insurance. Should you have any questions on this please Email me.

Good Luck

Bill when Susan and I went to Louisiana to pick up our Eagle we were told by the authorities there that all we needed was a signed bill of sale from the owner to bring it home here in Florida! We drove it home without a tag. The authorities are harder on you for having an expired tag or another tag from another vehicle on the bus than to NOT have one at all!
I would bring it home wothout one first but make sure you have the insurance and bill of sale!
Hope this helps!
By the way, what kind of bus you getting and where in Florida do you reside?
Thanks, Ace & Susan

Thanks for the info, I will go to the court house and try to get a temp tag, if not will drive it back home without a tag, already have insurance.
I'm getting a 1955 Greyhound Scenicruiser (PD4501), Professionally converted in 1978 and will be located in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Will post web address for pics once I have possession.
Thanks again...

Better have it checked by an old timer that knows the Scenicruisers so you don't only get half way home.

Well, I finally got it. Drove it back without a tag, even had State Police pull up behind me. It's got 6V92TA w/ Allison 754 Auto w/ Rockwell 3.33 rear end. Caught myself going 80 passing people, whooo horsy !! Since theres' no odometer, just speedometer, would guess the mileage to between 5.5 - 7 MPG. Now that I got it home at are starting to move on board, I think, what have I done ? Used up 1 gallon of oil for 1,000 miles. Noticed the air pressure would regularly drop 10-20lbs then back up. Now that it's parked it dropped 40lbs in 5 hours, Found the general location ( rear wheels ) of the air leak. Anyways here's the pics all taken in VA www.busfarm.com/b3
