Gentlemen, I recently lost reverse on my model "05 took it to Jefferson bus in O.K.C. and had a new one installed, lasted about 3 shifts, took it back, they replaced it, it lasted 10-12 times. By then I was back in Zapata [on the border] I go under her and all the bolts were gone that holds it onto the top of the transmission, I get new bolts and red locktite and re-install it......works pretty good, I go to New Mexico and on the way home....no reverse... I figure I lost the bolts again....but no they are intact. I have power to both sides of solonoid in engine compartment but not to tranny solonoid ??? the wire to tranny solonoid seems good....what do I need to do next ??? thanks |

An old man once told me if you can't find the problem in 5-10 minutes...there is a bad ground.... What I would do next...stop payment on my check |

Donald the tranny solonoid bolts to the top of the tranny creating the ground, the other solonoid has power to both sides, there fore it is grounded....please ask the old man what else should I try. thanks |

I found that the reverse solenoid on my former 4104 needed a good amount of play in it's linkage to work properly.The solenoid has to start unloaded movement before starting to actually move the lever. The manual showed proper adjustment,but I had all the slack adjusted out and it then only would work intermittently.Finally took time to read the manual and adjusted it per and it worked fine ever since.I don't know whether yours is similar. |

Basically you can run a hot wire to it and see what is going on. Some liked to be placed into 1st prior to solenoid induced 2nd reverse, just to get the shift tower and bars lined up. Bet it's loose on the housing and needs some thread inserts. Pretty easy to do yourself for $20. |

On my 06 the hassle seems to be that the hold points stick. When first used the solenoid pulls on one coil, points move and the holding coil then keeps it in reverse. Somehow the new solenoids (tried more than one) stick in hold. After playing with it far too often my cure was a 1/4 inch hole in the rear cover , where I push with a chop stick after using reverse. A pain to be sure , but far less than not having reverse when required. FF |

At least the reverse solenoid on a GMC is easy to reach, not even arm's length inside the curbside transmission access door. Unfortunately, T-drives require the greasy coveralls. . .

If a good one stuck in hold I would try wiring it backwards! They are real simple throw solenoids, power on, parts move, power off, spring return. Most times the Eagle case needs some thread inserts so it does not get so sloppy loose that it no longer works or just won't work when you are backing into your parking spot behind K mart for Daytona Speedweeks after running coast to coast. |

Apoligies. If you just don't have power to the chrome button, then find out why or hot wire one from another circuit that is hot all the time. If it is on the other side then run hot and ground wires and use a toggel switch to energize. |
