Is there an easy, neat way to remove the destination sign
from the inside of an mc9?

What method did you use?

The sign itself pops right out, but you probably mean the whole shebang. Here's how, thanks to Gumpy:

YIKES

Isn't there an easier way to do this? I have
no plans to remove either the windshield or
the ceiling. Maybe I can live with a sign...

Hello John the newbie.

The sign is easily removable, the hard part is deciding how to cut the one piece inner ceiling piece that wraps down seamlessly into the back of the sign.

Windshields can stay in, just don't bang anything against it....

Remove the ceiling panel, remove the sign mechanisms, and reposition the panel to decide where YOU want to cut it and how YOU are going to be happy with the home made trimming to fill the gap that YOU want to make.

It does open up the view, but that also increases the sun-in-the-eyes factor. You'll have to open up the windshield above the driver to match, removing the tape above the sun visor and you might not like the resulting baking from the sun.

Maybe try opening up the driver's windshield and be sure you like the results before messing with the passenger side?

Easier to put back the tape if you change your mind...

happy coaching!

i destroyed it piece by piece when i removed it... i took the inner fiberglass cover off first, then the plastic rolls with the lettering down... used a small angle grinder to cut the welds... it fell right to the floor.... worksed good for me...

Thanks guys.

This mc9 I've been looking at is likely going to be the one
for me... If I can get it right. That sign assembly limits the
view from the passenger seat, so removal for MH use would
be desirable. I just don't want to make a mess out of the
bus interior or have to rip out windshields, etc. Since it's
built right into the ceiling material, an easy removal didn't
seem likely. You fellas' have given me some hope with
that project!

And uhh.. The secret to cutting the toilet assembly for removal?
At 40"x 40" I'll never get it out thru a window...

The owner/operator of this bus has me nearly convinced to
use it as a bus and make some cash before I go converting it.
Any thoughts? Or is this new thread material?

Thanks again for the input.

We went with a different approach. We simply installed a new sign that says PRIVATE COACH. This left interior intact for a "finished look"
Just "our way". Jack

Yeah Jack! That was my first thought, until I tried to imagine
being parked at Long Key Fl State Park with the thing blocking
my view of the ocean while sitting at the table.

But If I get this bus and the sign doesn't obstruct as much as
I think it will, I'll probably do just as you have. I really don't
want to spend all my time working on a bus, when I could
be traveling in it.

John le neuf -

The restroom removal is less than a one day job with a few hints. When you get ready, repost and I or others can coach you through. Really not as bad as you might think. And you can carry the big SS piece out thru the front door with only one slight mod.

Wasn't there a removal kit for the restroom that
was mentioned here in the last few months? If I
remember right there were two or three versions
depending on if you wanted to watch a sparkly wick
or to push a button for the noise to remove the
bathroom. BOOOMMMM!!!! ;-)

Good memory, Abajaba!

JayJay's comments from earlier in the year...LOL

" Ron the Busnut has a removal kit that is noisy, but effective. There are 4 sticks in the standard kit and 6 sticks in the heavy duty one. Fuse and caps are standard, but you can get the electric caps for only a few dollars more. UPS Haz-Mat shipping is a bit exorbitant though, but since USPS wussies won't take high deflagration explosives any more you don't have a choice. I've heard Luke or International Bus may have C-4 or Semtex, but that is only a rumor. Persistence is the only alternatiove to the above!!! ...JJ"

I just removed the outhouse and the only real hard part was figuring out why the tank wouldn't come out from underneath. Getting the top part, complete with the walls, seat and sink wasn't too bad (didn't have to cut apart anything). Then it all just slid right out the rear window to the ground below. Separating the tube to the tank was the secret (loosen the big clamp ring). Then finding the two bolts (one on each side) holding the tank to the bottom of the floor was the next puzzle. It would slide in and out but wouldn't drop down.

THAT was my challenge, but thanks to the guys on this board, I got the answer and had that bad boy out in 30 mins. the next day. YAY BNO!
