One small lapse in thinking = 5 dead in their sleep.

This is a no brainer, I never go to sleep with the genset running-period!

Well, with the opposing view, we do sleep with the genset running but have multiple functioning carbon monoxide detectors. If we are in a place where there are other campers or trucks alongside, (OR right next to a building or other obstruction) we use the removeable stack that goes about a foot above the roof of the bus.
Multiple carbon monoxide screamers are mandatory for us.
We use wood stoves & kerosene heaters at home as well and have never had the monoxide detectors show ANY registerable numbers (yes they work and do indicate when tested).

The typical CO monitor that you buy at the big box store may not do as good a job as you might think.
We have one plugged in a wall outlet and it allways registers zero. I also have an expensive portable type that I use when doing inspections, and it showed 5ppm last winter inside the house for a while untill I found the problem.
Another area for concern is windows located near or above operating appliances like hotwater heaters or furnaces, and we wont even begin to talk about non vented stuff.

Joe.

Jim

Just because it has a test button does not always prove that the unit is functional and trustworthy.

Ditto to my first post plus we don't park next to anyone using one.
