I have 180 degree thermostats, thinking of increasing to 190 degree for winter. Have you done this?

Second question: Are 4106 windshield wiper arms available (new)

The usual reason for installing different thermostats is that an engine runs warmer of colder than desired.

In most cases, money is much better spent on fixing whatever is causing the problem; this is rarely the thermostat.

I have to ask what will 190 degrees do for you that 180 degrees won't? If it's just heating the interior of the bus while travelling, 180 degrees is ample, you won't notice a difference. I wouldn't change unless you suspect your current thermostats are broken, and even then I would put the 180's back in. In fact, I just checked my manual and stock thermostats on my bus are 170 degrees.

If you are going to be driving around someplace like Minnesota this winter you would be ahead to repair or replace the radiator shutter system if your bus had them. Also, your bus (4106) should have a thermostatically controlled fan clutch (taurus).
If the coolant is cold, the fan should be loafing.
In really cold weather, big rig truckers install the fabric radiator covers but if you put anything in front of the radiator be sure it is balanced as to the area covered. If you cover, say the bottom but not the top the fan flexes when it rotates through lower & higher pressure areas. This can cause the fan or attachments to fail. (It normally takes out the radiator when it does.)

Trucker radiator covers often have different sized holes in the center that are have snaps to adjustable the size.

A hole in a piece of cardboard will do the same if you leave a couple of flaps in place.

I would caution putting anything in front of a rear engined coach's radiator.

The radiator isn't out in the wind like a truck.

I have purposely run alongside 2-stroke coaches in winter weather to observe the shutters. I have yet to see the shutters close on the open highway. They will close fairly quickly as the load is removed as the coach slows and idles around into a parking space at a service centre.

If you are going to run in the cold, I would encourage returning the shutters to operating condition.

I am partial to ignoring/removing/rendering inoperative the fan damper doors in an MCI, as they were usually the first problem towards overheating in fleet service.

The shutters do a good job of cutting the air flow for a busnut.

I fixed the shutters on my 4104 and I'm very happy with them.

I get better heat in the cold, and the engine runs better when up to temperature. (especially when it is sucking in dense cold air)

Wish my 4107 had shutters but not sure they ever had any.
