Crazy idea I know! I have an MCI 9 with an automatic, and I hate the shifter on the right side. I want to move the parking brake, no big deal. At the same time move the shifter to the left side, up higher, and closer to the front. The old cable is under the floor now and if I could somehow couple another cable to the existing one I'd be golden. Call it an extension cable if you will.

I echo Jay's issues with the shifter on the right. Same bus, same trans. Has anybody done this? I see there is an Allison shifter available on *bay and had considered trying to mount it in another location. I have designed a console for my CB, radio, cd, computer and two 7" TFT screens, which would fit better with the shifter and brake moved.

It is my understanding that Morse makes extension cables to allow re-locating the shifter, although I have not seen one. We opted to simply move our shift tower rearward to where it is against the step up to the "passenger level". This allows more room in front of the dash. Hope this helps, Jack

I took and made a shaft with two pillar block bearings with a bracket to hook the cable on one end and the shifter on the other end total cost was about 30.00

Hey Jack !!!!

I tried to call Morse and they are not in business anymore, and the new Telex morse deals in mostly mariene shifters and controls. Any other ideas!

The tech people gave me the name of Felsted cables main office. After talking to there tech and engineering people and they didn't sound like it was a possibility.

Please help!!

Jay,
My comment was based on information I received from a fellow busnut that lived in Ft. Lauderdale and worked on large ocean going vessels. This was about 3 years ago. He said he added an extension and re-located his shifter into the dash. I never saw the finished job. FastFred might have some information that could help you. Jack

I deal with a company that builds custom cables to about any spec.

They are currenlty producing clutch and brake cables for me for the antique auto parts business that I own.

If I know in detail what you need, I will see what they can do.

HI Butch !

I need to extend the cable by 40", however that is done I don't know. I thought it could be done easily enough but the engineers and tech people didn't think it was possible. I'm not much for looking at the negative side and think that almost ANYTHING is possible. Any help you can give would be greatly appreiciated

In our shop, we replace the cable with a new longer cable that we run under the bus in a metal conduit and then route it to the left side. We also change the shifter as the display of what gear you are in will be hard to read up against the side wall. Every one loves it as they can then install a seat base that rotates so that they now have another seat for company. We buy ours from Speedometer Service in Portland, Or. 1-800-634-2145 ask for Steve.

Jay,

From what I have read, you have been given the info by David Gregory......

"We buy ours from Speedometer Service in Portland, Or. 1-800-634-2145 ask for Steve."

In that light, I would contact your local speedometer service. Of course, you could try boat dealers as boats use morse type cables, so they may well have a supplier.

You know, you could search the internet too, I just ran "morse cable" on Google and the very first hit had:

Morse Cable • Morse Cable Ends & Mounts • Cable Shortening & Extending Kits
Stock Style Throttle Cable & Cable Tube • Misc. Accessories & Fittings

Simple isn't it......... LOL. Have fun.

Peter.

hi peter

As most of my internet serches have gone, DEAD END. This company deals with sandrails and any cable they deal in is not close to the size needed.

Still looking,
Jay
