I get lots of offers from Juno and my ISP service provider to upgrade to accelerated web surfing. On only a 54K line in summer and 35K (at best) in winter would this be worth $60 to $75 a year??? FAST FRED |

FF, Our ISP offered a similar option. The particular accelerator they offered was PROPEL. Although we did see a slight increase in download speed, for some unkown reason, we had difficulty downloading MAK board. Solution was to disable Propel when we wanted to view MAK board. We decided it was not worth the extra cost and hassle. Jack |

I tried Proxyconn's free 10 day trial offer. Downloads with the accelerator are close to 5 times faster than our other computer w/o an accelerator. No software glitches. After a couple of hours use, I decided to subscribe. Worth the money IMO. |

The software they use is available for free. The way it works is that it continously downloads sites that you frequent. When it has it downloaded it appears faster since it is allready stored on your computer. The more frequently a website updates the slower that site will be. The bottom line is that the compression they use and the tricks they claim are just that. They do not speed up a phone line. Fcc guidelines established that 53k is maximum speed allowed. (but wait I have a 56k Modem in the imortal words of Lewis Grizzard it is a HO AXE have to read the disclaimers close). |

Marketing smoke & mirrors, baby. Navigating to the same old frequently visited sites may *seem* faster, but the real test is pure downloads, which is different than 'surfing.' Try it side by side with a 1Mb photo or something and you'll see that there are only so many bits that can move thru that pipe. Have you considered a portable satellite solution to move between abodes? By all means though, do it YOUR WAY! |

I am waiting for the satelite to either have a low cost antenna that is automatic , or a really simplified method of targeting. Don't need it on the road , with Wi Fi going in to most campgrounds , truck stops and marinas, thats enough for us while on the road. IF the satelite was EZ targeted and could include a phone , we would own it NOW! Thanks for the accelerator feedback , not for me, FAST FRED |
