Has anyone have a safe suggestion on how to pull the tension arm down that supports the luggage bay doors. I don't feel good trying it by myself after getting one put back on, alot of tension behind those.
Took them off because of the rubber strip holding the luggage bay door brace to the body had started ripping back about 15 inches and the door at the top was pooching outward about 6 inches. Thought I could repair it but after reading post back on march 30 I now know that the rubber hinge needs replaced with either a new one from Luke or a $$$$$$ Stainless one.
But until I do I need to get it back together so I can somewhat shut the door

Thanks
Sam

Sam yours is like mine also and in DA BOOK it will tell you exactly how to do it safely. I have done that on my 4905 and it so much easier to do it by DA BOOK

Sam,

I plan to install SS hinges on the body but keep the rubber on the door as it is easy to change.

The body hinges, however are a bear, and I don't want to do them more than once!!

The 4107 has these too. GM manual shows specs. to make a tool to disengage torsion rods. Shouldn't be too difficult to have this made at a metal fabricating shop or diy.I had the end curls made and bought the straight material for handle. Just need to get it welded up. Now I need to get the adapter made up to change differential carrier assy., per the manual.

I pulled & replaced the diff on our 4104. I did not have the fixture from "Da Book". I fabricated a simple jig to hold it upright on a floor jack. My advice is to remove the axle housing & do this in the open where you can lift from the top. Not sure about the later buses but the 04 diff has support points inside the housing. It's almost like installing a 200 lb cylinder liner. If it isn't PERFECTLY aligned, it won't slide in. You won't be able to "shake it back & forth till it hits the right spot" cause it weighs about as much as you do. It was the most miserable task I have ever done under a vehicle.
Whatever you do, don't ever try to replace one under the bus if you are not on a smooth concrete floor! Like the song goes, "Don't ask me how I know".

Sorry, my post was off topic for bay doors. I got a severe flashback when I read John's remark about differential carriers.

The 4905 differential is a lot tighter fit. I've changed the 4104 one. It is somewhat easier.

The special tool in the manual is essentially a long lever to fit the end of the torsion bar so you can control and move it when necessary.

A plain lever will work if you don't let it slip!! I'm not recommending it though!

Geez Gomer, why didn't you remember that before I had one fabricated, yep I would have done the 6,000 mile roundtrip if I would have known.

Jim Bob, don't let it happen again! Ian will sick the penguin on you if you keep that up.

Hey Sam,
Gomer's offer is all the reason you need for a ROAD TRIP. It's a nice warm place to pass the winter, he offered to help and you're not that far from the Arcadia New Year's ralley. I'm shocked you're not on the road already.

And it's not the Penquin that scares me. It's that weiner dog totin' Fooey!

Hi Fooey.
Wienerdogs, especially that shaggy one you hang around with, are pretty scary & dangerous creatures. However, the penquin's last picture reveals a sinister and deranged personality far more frightening than anything a tubular canine might conceive.
