I know this is probably in the wrong place, but please bear with me. My wife left East Central Texas a week and a half ago to visit with her father (86) and her mom, (84) {Or maybe it’s 39}. She went because her dad was diagnosed with stage four cancer and had dropped about 60 lbs. from his fighting weight of 135. Her mom is a great southern lady and had to go in for triple bypass surgery…. she’s been in A-fib about 3 or 4 times now since the surgery. The wife’s dad often doesn’t know who she is, and at times becomes so hateful and spiteful that he’s not anything close to himself. He almost can’t even read anymore and can’t write at all. He was at one time in a former life, the owner of a gas station in Pinebluff, NC when US 1 was only a two lane track. Later he went on to become a woodshop teacher at the local High School, (Aberdeen, NC) and taught many a young man how to make a saw cut straight, how to figure an angle and how to make a living. He knew more about power tools, hand tools and craftsmanship than just about any man I’ve ever met. Maybe you were one of those young men that he taught. His name is Billy Carpenter, and will soon not be with us anymore. It will be a great loss of a real teacher, a great man and a personal friend. Oh, to make it bus related... He at one time had a Skoolie that they would take from Pinebluff, NC to Myrtle Beach, SC for a weekend. |

So sorry Dallas Our prayers are with you all and the rest of the family too. I can relate to a teacher taking time to show students a little consideration for their efforts and to uphold them when they may have messed up a project but worked with them and showed them what happened.. again God Bless Gomer |

Billy is from a time long gone, when teachers actually tried to teach. I've learned so much from him and am so saddened by the loss that is imminent. One thing I learned is patience and understanding, although I still backslide a lot, and he wasn't even my teacher in school. Anytime I had a question for him about what I was relearning with wood working, he would take his time and try to explain to me WHY something had to be done in a certain way. As a result, I've become almost good enough to make the original shop projects in 9th grade and get a "C". I'll miss him more than anyone could know. |

Dal I am also in the prayer group and a BIG HUG to Cat from me, Oh heck A BIG HUG for you both. The class of that kind of man is getting smaller all the time and the plug and play downloaded type is a poor replacement indeed. God bless you both during this sad period |

Dal So sorry to hear and will remember you and Kat and her Pop in our prayers. All of us on this board know a lot of different things about the old and the new. It is our duty to share and help the young ones and friends like we all do here with any knowledge we may have. If you have 2 tools alike, make up a tool kit and give to some young people and if they don't know why, show them with patients! If we don't then it all was a waste not to teach it ahead. the best way to give, is to pay it forward. chromie |

Dallas, Sorry to read about your loss. Please pass on our condolences to Cat. If I remember correctly we met both of her parents at the Timmonsville rally, very nice folks. Cliff |
