I have located a 8v92, that I will attempt to install in my 1978 MC8. I presently have a 8v71 with a 740. The 8v92 has a tag with a unit # of 80F103029, and model # of 80877821. I believe it came out of a International truck (no year)

Is this a good version? want do I need to change, and where could I find the parts required to make the change? I am in Ontario Canada

I also installed a 8v92 in my mc8. I would call Sam
at caylor Supply, he will be a big help and will be able to help you with any parts that you may need. He is located in Rantoul, Kansas. (785) 878-3405

I believe you have modify the engine cradle.By removing the original end support and welding in a new one.

The serial number indicates it is a 1985 engine, which would make it a Silver version.

You will need to increase the cooling efficiency of the radiators and fans.

Some have changed to a large single sidemounted radiator system like that on an Eagle, to help cool the monster.

torque convertor in the 740 will have to be re-configured to use the extra torque you'll have with the 8v92...

The converter only needs reconfiguring if the vehicle combination needs it.

Take all your vehicle details (hp, torque, weight, trans, vin number, axle ratio, tire size, etc. to your friendly Allison dealer and have him run it all through their SCAAN program and that will tell you what stator will be best for your application.

Ok here is some of the things I had to do, First you will have to modify the front eng. mount. and I changed the tork convertor, Different muffler 5 in and 5 out. you will have to shorted the driveshaft one inch. you will have to modify the intake to the air cleaner. You will have to move the transimission mounts on the cradel, move back one inch. Larger radiators, and larger radiator squirrel cages. I had to change the cable to the tranmission the turbo was in the road. The front crank pulley will have to be modify or a different one. unless the 92 already came out of a bus. And there is more, but this is just off the top of my head. it is a lot of work and not just a drop in as some as said. I think if I had to do it over again I would have rebuilt and turbo. the 8v71. As I said in the earlier post call sam at caylor supply.

Well I will have to disagree on both accounts, I have also and still running both the 8v71 and three of the 8v92, I have yet to get 10 miles per gallon out of the 71. and 4 to 7 on the 92, but power, There is a big differences. Now I take it that we are talking about a non turbo 71.
