on the very back of my Eagle..there is a 15 gallon stainless steel tank & a elec. water pump...I've been thinking about running the plastic tubeing to the kitchen & a starter button to the pump....that way I can pull up to those'water barrels & get 15 gallons of water for my folgers & for cooking...anybody ever done that ??

if you were able to clean the 30 yr old tank, it'd be good....it'll be difficult to ever clean all the crud, scale, etc out of the tank, good enough for drinking water, that is....

I think I can put a gallon of bleach in there & about 10 gallons of water & take a 'trip'...bet it would slosh out good..I know...probably mispelled slosh...before anybody says anything...it was for hand washing....nothing to do with the toilet...

From what I've learned, the reason most of these were deactivated for in-service coaches was because some passenger died after having consumed some of that water. I've heard of several MCI's (mine included) where a recent purchaser scratches his head to figure out why they were unhooked.

That said, mine is now hooked up and ready to go for flushwater & bath sink for handwashing only. Don't know how successful that will be. MCI's have them up high, so it's a gravity feed.

Maybe with super bleach flushing and then good filtration it would be worth pursuing for consumption?

Try Barkeepers Friend. I used it to clean my SS thermos when nothing else would. Available at Krogers, etc.

Desert sounds pretty good compared to 70% humidity in this stinkin city. I think I could get by just fine for a few months of < one car a week to encounter! (after August, that is!)

I just built a spot in my kitchen cabinets, right over the sink, for the 2-1/2 gallon jugs of water with the built-in spigot. I make coffee and all other water consumption from the "bottled" water. Cheap and easy and no need to worry about what cocktail of water sources I have in my main tank.

You da man, Scott. I've been doing that in my way-pre-finishout stage and have been thinkin' hey this works pretty good - why not carry the implementation forward into the real design?!

Don't I remember you wanted to rig up the dishdrying rack above the sink for lo-hassle dish maintenance?

I love 'tightwad engineering'!

Yep! That is in the next cabinet space over from the water jug section. The stainless steel dish rack came with a SS pan that goes underneath it. So I tipped the whole rack so that one corner is lower than the others. Then I drilled a hole thru the pan and the bottom of the cabinet and put a small section of water tubing connecting it thru to the low corner. So now I put rinsed dishes straight into the rack without drying them and the water runs down into the sink. The dish rack is also the normal storage location for the dishes so they just stay there until needed to be used again.

I am guessing, the Tank problem was due to the tank never being sanitized, a yearly affair or more for most RVers. Also the calcium and such build up would be the cleaning problem.

At home I use lime-away in my water purifier. It takes a little time but will clean it up after a few applications. The Bleach will take care of the rest.

I worked with a guy that had some commercial stuff (sorry, can't recal a name) and he gave me a cup of it, said it was great for cleaning out the scale and build up in the coffee makers. I used it and in one try everything was clean. I was amazed. If anyone knows what this was, this would be the way to go.

If you have any doubts, replace the tubing and maybe the pump. The stainless steel can be saved and sanitized. I think there is a website about this exact thing, hafta look for it.

Good luck
