Just found this
http://briva.kitchenaid.com/

It is a stainless two compartment sink and the right side has a drop in rack and a lid and functions as a high efficiency dishwasher! Really interesting idea and I wish i could see clear to spending $1500 on a sink and dishwasher!

Yeah, $1500 IS steep but saving that space and the convience is awesome...hopefully they'll make a bunch of them and prices will drop...One can always hope.

I saw this used on a "Trading Spaces" show that was then featured on "Oprah" and have been trying to find it ever since. Thanks. The MSRP of $1799 is a bit out of my price range but it is still nice to think it may show up on eBay one day.

I've seen a similar unit in marine applications before. The difference was the marine one could also use DC. I'll see if I can find some info on it.

$1500... wow. Some alternatives?

1. Pick up hitchhiker at the on ramp and let 'em do the dishes for
a ride to the next exit.

2. Get a dog (also great for kid's car sickness clean-up between dish duty)

3. Put the dishes in the bathtub 1/2 full of water & detergent - drive 15 miles.

Let me know if you need more.

What about eating right out of the pan with your hands, then you only have one dish. Or throwing dirty dishes out the window above the sink and just buying more at thrift stores, for $1500 you could go a few years with $.25 plates!

What cruel thing to say, you sould be ashamed of yourself and stricken from this board for all time. ChuckMC9 you are now my arch nemisis and I will devote my life to hunting you down and quartering you, burying your bits in the far corners of the globe wrapped in pig entrails deep in the bowels of public outhouses.

It will be so.

And you are a BIT sensitive, come on, let's kiss and make up. I've got two pork pies in the oven and a VHS of Steel Magnolias.

YOWSA! Must be all that rain and gloom in Seattle? Too much in common with the scalawags from Redmond? Naah, Micro$oft programmers certainly aren't perfectionists as the evidence shows, so it must be the weather. Or too much time fixing Audi's.?

Alright - here's my copy of Fried Green Tomatoes as my olive branch. Sheesh - I'm not even the perp here!

"the all-electric galley cook top, a Dish Drawer dishwasher, a SubZero two-drawer 5-cubic-foot freezer below the galley counter, a SubZero refrigerator with two separate refrigerator drawers"

A spot of tea? What is wrong with you? In Seattle whe drink Espresso! Look 2 puppies, I'm not English and although I am as bald as the six plags guy, that's not me and not even funny, it's simply cruel and I may have to have a little pitty party for myself, you have really hurt my feelings. Now if you could throw jello at me in the lunchroom tomarrow I would probably have to skip the rest of the day. BTW you don't need any more pork pies anyway!

Chuck, Fried Green Tomatoes...Are you a little light in the loafers or what, I read in Womans Day that men who own copies of Fried Green Tomatoes are 10 times more likely to wear frilly underthings than men who do not. Now Steel Magnolias, that's a mans movie! and although my shop specializes in German Cars, I would not let an Audi in the door. We only do Mercedes, Porsche, BMW and VW. Audi's are designed by the bastard half brother of the guy who started Lucas.

On a slightly more serious note: I do not want an all electric galley as I plan to spend most of my travel time away from power and don't want to listen to the Genset all day. I do however want a refer and freezer and would like below counter models with the ability to run for a good 4 to 5 days without recharging. Propane units are quite expensive, require venting, and I just have not had good luck with them. I did find a good unit at http://www.amroyal.com/sections/product.asp?PID=207 and if I buy the matching freezer I can have them both for $1030.00, they each draw about 200AH per day by my calculations (360KW per year) and I could probably reduce that with some creative ventilation around the condensors (small solar fans = cooling when the sun is out and it is therefore hot outside).

I would rather buy a few extra batteries if the system will work...

Aack, copied too much of that sentence. Yes, the undercounter implementation was the pointer. I'm doing that one way or another and will be looking at which units in the upcoming times. There are a small handful of us who are going to pains now to keep the windows, so that later on they will be as 'panorama-enabling' as possible.

...and I agree about Audi's...from experience.
...and if anything, much too much GVW on the loafers.

" (360KW per year) and I could probably reduce that with some creative ventilation around the condensors "

Many folks have found that adding 2 in of good insulation , glued on to as many surfaces you can stand will reduce the amps consumed per day by up to half!!

Might be worth a try, if you have the room.

Howver the 12V Tundra models have a very good rep as the computer brain was modified, and might work.

When the supply V rises above 12.8 the computer thinks FREE JUICE (the battset is being charged) so the fridge compressor goes on to full output till 33F is reached.

Otherwise the compressor will hold to cycling only on the thermostsat, and uses juice proportinal to the load.

Danfloss compressors are the best in the world at DC refrigeration with high efficency because of this variable output.

2 solar pannels will operate one for ever (in the sun).

Some interesting refrigerator links:

http://www.backwoodssolar.com/Catalogpages2/refriger2.htm

Learned that gas/electric refers use loads of juice when running on elec as the pump must work almost full time due to the design of the system...So much for the 3 way unit if you ever want to run of batteries when parked...

I have read that effeciency can be doubled by adding insulation and adding ventilation around the coils and am going to try this with the small refer in my shop and will later post the results...does anyone know how I can measure the KWH it is using now and will use after mods?????
