Trying to decide between the Heart units or the Trace SW4024? Plan a 50amp shore cord, 6.5kw genset, 8 to 10 batteries and the 270AMP alternator... Any recomendations??? Chris |

Chris, the Trace would probably be the most reliable, produce the best power and let you use a smaller generator comfortably, but as you know, it will cost more. What might not be obvious is that typical installation costs could be wiute a bit higher, as well, because of neutral bonding problems. The Heart will include a neutral bonding relay, but the Trace will not. We lost a Heart recently. It was a 32 volt one on our boat. Xantrex would not repair it or let us have the schematic so that I could take a shot at it. So, we are struggling with what to replace it with. My main problem is Xantrex. I really don't like their refusal to repair ours. For what it's worth. Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576 Suncatcher |

The time to get a schematic for electronic equpment is when you buy it - no schematic - no sale. There is nothing proprietory about electronics that you can't just take apart and copy if you really want to copy it. I spent years educating my industrial customers on this. They simply itemized the schematics on the purchase order and didn't pay the bill until the order was complete. Not many salemen will lose a sale over supplying a piece of paper. |

Had the same problem with Xantrex, Think maybe we all should stop buying there product, may be that would bring them around. |

The Trace is set up to use the Link system that will be able to tell you batt state. Outback seems to have a great rep , by Aussy if the Zantrex folks are too snotty. FAST FRED |

The Trace has a generator assist function that I find attractive. The Heart can be linked with the link 2000R (allows for charging from bus alternator). My recommendation is (not knowing your load requirements or need for true sine output): Get a 8KW generator, Heart Freedom off ebay, Link 2000R, an use AGM batteries. FWIW Henry |

Henry that is precisely the setup we had on our livaboard boat and it worked well. |

the hearts will work with any of the link monitors. Theya also support a battery temp monitor. I have used them for years with no problems. I currently use the heart 3000 system manager and it works great. |

6.5 KW gen set should be OK. I see a lot of posts suggesting a big generator and a big inverter. The inverter will assist the system when more than the generator output is needed. When I monitor my AC use by Volt and Amp gauges I see that much or the time the generator is being under-utilized. I assume you will be using an 1800 RPM diesel generator. |
