As life gives us ups and downs we try to make the best out of the downs. I just started my floor plan and now have to change it for a wheel chair. Any one done this or have a plan.I have a 4106 plus thinking of a way I can make a lift at the door for a wheel chair.Thanks. Need to make it work with what I got now (4106) | ||

Or sell the 4106 and buy a late model 102" wide transit with a flat floor and wheelchair lift already installed. | ||

Bob, just did a search on Alta Vista "wheelchair rv lift" and got numerous hits. That might be a good place to start. The key will be that your entrance door is wide enough without structural alteration. Good luck. | ||

Bob....where there is a will, there is usually a way. I don't have the slightest idea what that might be, but I'm apparently in the same boat as you are relative to making it "work with what I have now". Ours is a 40 foot Crown. I couldn't consider selling and re-buying. As I recall Gary Stadler, who has one similar to ours, moved his door toward the rear of the coach and that could be a beginning of the thought process for you. Perhaps he can step in here and give some help. I just have no knowledge of GMC. Fast Fred, who has a GMC is an innovator, as are many others on this board. If you have a Community College or a trade school for fabrication and welding in your area, it might be a great place to start. Or if you know a good welding shop that specializes in fabrication that could be even better. There are also organizations that will help provide for the expense of such things under certain circumstances. I noted recently in our local paper someone was advertising a wheel chair lift out of a van......lots of possibilities I should think. lots of the buses that sell on e**y,have wheelchair lifts,my suggestion is for you to follow each bus to it's new owner,(posted at the end of sale)once you get this guys email address,write him & see if he is going to pull the lift out,and if he is,could you have it,next,make a hole that big,wherever you want. | ||

Wheelchairs come in many sizes. The handiest is the one used on narrow isle aircraft . May be far less of a job with a small chair. I would NOT recomend butchering holes in a monocoque GM , but would look at a simple foward stair mod. Even if the chair unit was kept in a bay , it would be EZ enough , but might pose emergency exit hassles for the user. Keep lookin, there is ALWAYS a simple solution, FAST FRED | ||

As an alternative to major vehicle modifications, have you considered the use of a sliding boom-hoist assembly? Many of the newer parcel trucks make use of these. The carrying assembly mounts to the roof/ceiling structure and can project outside the vehicle on demand, along with the lifting apparatus.
