I found a 4903 for $1500. It has the following problems.
Lots of blue gray smoke at idle.
Lots of gray smoke from both breathers all the time.
Supercharger is noisy at low speeds. (compared to my 671)
Clutch drags, impossible to get in gear from neutral.
Several corroded holes in rear bulkhead.

Starts runs and drives fine. Lots of power compared to my 671 04.
New tires 2 years ago.
New air bags in rear.
New air compressor.
Nice fairly straight bus.

I am thinking it would be a nice rig with a 50 and an automatic.
What do you folks think.

FIND the donor coach FIRST.

Series 50 and reverse 730 in a transit WERE done , but are rather hard to find , as there not old enough for the transit sales.

Fred:
I found a 50 series motor out of a crashed oil truck and I found one of the reversing 730 trans that needs rebuilding. Looks like plenty of room for everything. I can get all the computer controls, gages, etc out of the oil truck. And I will replace the rear bulkhead when I have things striped out. Do you know anything about gearing on this trans. Is it under drive, over drive, or straight through? If it's straight through it looks like I will be geared a little tall. I can not find any info on this transmission on the Allison web site. The guy that I talked to in the local transit shop said this trans design had some problems do you know what go's wrong. I figure if I rebuild it it should be fine in a conversion if it lasted at all in transit service.

Where else am I going to get in trouble. All the controls are just wires. I will have to build a wiring harness, as the oil truck one can't reach 40'.
