I took the coach out this weekend and we had alot of rain on Saturday afternoon and night. I found a leak around a maker light but the big "trouble" was the noise from the rain. It will really load in the coach. We had to turn the TV way up to hear the DVD while we waited out the rain. Right now the roof is spray foamed from the factory with a 1 1/2" of foam. I currently do have the roof liner install or partition walls built. I am think the walls will help break up the noise so you are not hearing the rain hitting all 40 ft of roof. How are people dealing with rain noise? Ron in SD Sioux Falls, SD 86 Prevost LeMirage XL |

After I applied KoolSeal to the roof of the RV, the noise from the pounding rain had been "softened". I had considered using Acoustical material but it has a Space cost to head room. Good Luck "Imagine" sc |

I actually enjoy the noise of the rain upon the roof. My Crown ex-schoolie under construction has no roof insulation yet and... ...since it really rains in SW Oregon (100 inches plus) the noise can be quite considerable. Seems I have gotten used to it. But then I have become used to lots of stuff like middle age, forgettfullness, loud exhausts, loud music, etc., etc.. |

One man's music is another one's noise. I remember visiting my grandparents in West Virginia when I was a kid. Sound of rain on the tin roof. Great way to go to sleep. Only thing missing to go with the rain is, fried potatoes with onions and garlic, the next morning. I haven't noticed the rain noise too much in my RTS. I have 2" of foam insulation. Finally got the ceiling panels in 99%. Started on some of cabinet work. Oh, I cannot wait to listen to the rain while out traveling in the bus. Glad someone else said it... I lived in an old GMC fishbowl for a year and loved the sound of the rain. Later I lived almost 5 years in a turn of the century dutch sugarbeet barge converted into a house boat in London where all it does is rain...It has been better than two years now that I have been living in a house and I still miss the sound of the rein and I am in Seattle where it rains and rains. I actually got one of those little waterfall planters for my bedroom - took the girlfriend some time to get used to - just so I could sleep well, keeps the mind from racing when trying to go to sleep. Some evenings I go out and sit in my car just to listen... Rain, waves, wind, birds, that is why I am building a bus. I understand that not everyone feels the same and finds this natural noise an annoyance. if it really bothers you, you may consider a safari roof like old land rovers have, a sheet of aluminum raised above the vehicle roof by about 1.5 inches, it will keep the sound from resonating inside the vehicle...On land rovers they were installed to add ventilation without leaks (vents under) and to keep the sun from heating the roof and therefore the inside of the vehicle. Good luck, Chris |

Stick and staple mfg's claim the 'rubber roof' cuts down on the rain noise. One of the reasons, the other being $$, I am rejecting the idea of such. I too, like the sound of rain on the roof. |

The first chance I got after we bought our coach I ran out to it during a hard rain and watched the lightning strikes from the drivers seat for a long while, then I laid sprawled on the carpeted floor listening to the sound of the rain change as the storm waxed and waned...great stuff. Brian |
