Hi Dounan, I had to pull the drums off our '04' a few years ago. And I had several screws that didn't want to come off either. To get them off I used a torch and heated the screws up a little and then used a "impact screwdriver" on them and they came right off. If you don't have access to a acceylene torch..a propane torch will do just as good. (BTDT) I'm sure others may have a better idea, but this worked for me. Glenn Tallulah Falls, GA |

heat works great to get them out. just be sure that when you put them back in that you coat the threads with never sieze as the studs are only used to hold the drums on the hub and when the wheels are on they serve on no feature except to aline the drum so they can be easy to remove |

Better yet, when you re-install the drums, replace the screws with the newer ones that have allen-heads, and you won't have this problem again. tg |

Dounan. Dont fight it like I did till I learned the easy way.Spray liquid penatrent on them then Get yourself some good drill bits start of small and drill them through. go up a size or two untill you are close to the threads( when drilling use a liquid oil or drill fluid to cool the drill. and go slow.) After you get to where the whole is close to the edge of the threads take a small ,sharp , chisle and gentely hammer whats left of the head of the screw, anticlockwise, it will unscrew. I have used this on every wheel on my 04. Go back with the ones with a allen wrench head and never seeze. John |

dounan, Now you have made the decition its not that hard.Nor does it take long. I hour per wheel at the most. When you are ready to pull the drums, place large wood blocks under them so when they come off you can slide then right onto the blocks. Makes it easy. Dont forget , new springs ,post if you have any trouble getting the drums off. Be sure you block the bus in 4 places. Be sure you also block the axle independantly.do not rely on the jacks... John |

if you leave those screws off...ANYTIME you have your tire off...it will take two minutes to remove drum, inspect it for cracks AND look at your brake pads...it's nice to be abel to check on how things are |

They were there primarily to keep the drum in place during the assembly process and storage in the parts house. Some auto makers just used those star clips to retain them. |

Well, it was explained to me that the screws were there to keep the drums concentric. BUT, I didn't put the screws back on our '04' when it was apart back in 2000. So far it hasn't give me any problems. Glenn |
