Howdy Howdy, I searched the archives, but I'm not having any luck, so I'll ask: Does anyone have the specs on a dipstick for sticking the fuel tank for the main or even the auxillery fuel tank on a 4104? I found it before, but I am unable to locate it now. Currently I use a small piece of bamboo and all though it works well, I thought I'd look for a backup or a better way to check. Thanks! Rick |

Rick On my o4 there is a place for a fuel sending unit. It is rather hard to get to it as it is in the rear of the tank. I was able to squeeze in far enough to get it installed and it is a plate that has the screws in it and is located towards the center of the coach . They are nice to have also!! Gomer |

On my transit-I have two 5 bolt round covers on the top of my fuel tank. One I used for a fuel gauge sending unit and the other drilled for my generator fuel pickup and return lines. Always pleasing when you find these kinds of things on the bus! Good Luck, TomC |

I measured my tank some years back and found that each inch of fuel is about 5 gallons. I verified this by emptying the tank ( I had removed it for cleaning) and adding 5 gallons at a time. This confirmed the math. (Tank is 120 gallons and is 24" high. Each inch is 5 gallons therefore.) |

Rick, to answer your original question... just stuff a piece of wood or romex or plastic or whatever is handy down the fuel fill. When it touches, you are on the bottom. Never go more than 500 miles without fueling, (NOT Gassing up... you don't have a gas engine and you don't have a gas pedal, so you don't have a gas tank). Greyhound and Trailways both didn't spec fuel guages for their buses. Why? |

Yup, dipstick cannot be argued with, and will not give a false reading. Old timers said: "Only those with fuel gauges run out of fuel." Have a place in the fuel compartment, if possible, to store the dipstick to contain the wet stink. A piece of tube/hose/pipe to slide it into? happy coaching! buswarrior |

Jim, I thought our 4104's had 140 gallon tanks. I hope I didn't just burst that math bubble you had going. |

Jamo, They do but I find it impossible to fill because of foaming. just call it 100 gal and plan accordingly, gives a bit of a cushion. |

Well the bamboo is working for now, but I know I found a site that had some measurements for a fuel stick. If I find it I'll post it here. I agree, gauges are nice, but I prefer to use the stick. Not as much of a chance of error ;) Thanks for all the great input! Rick |
