I just installed electric wiper motors from a school bus. I now need a couple switches. (Yeah, I know, I should have removed the switches from the school bus, but I didn't). The switch should have 4 terminals Power in, Low speed, High speed, and Park(off). The off position energizes the park mode of the wiper motor. If possible I would like to find switches with an intermittant mode also. thanks in advance, Jack |

Jack you could buy purpose made wiper switches but that would probably be the expensive way to go. A nice heavy potentiometer would give you an infinite range of speed between off and high. This will not give you intermittent, but it will give you a speed slow enough to make intermitent unnecessary. Brian |

Brian - Is this just theory or have you done it. Wirewound potentiometers don't have an 'OFF' position so some current will always flow to the motor. Also, windshield wiper motors are two speed with separate windings and I don't think the motor would like to be run at very low speed on the high speed winding. In addition to that, you need full voltage at the "OFF" position to run the motor to Park. I would really like to know how you do it. |
