I finished topping off the coach(4905); {not the one in my sig, as that one uses fuel rods, which last a long time} with occasional 5 gallon jugs since installing a 165 gallon tank. Door on fuel inlet says to stop filling when whistle stops. I was using jug, and when whistle stopped, one more gallon came right to the top of the neck. I had figured that there was more margin than that. One reason for filling it so full was to make sure there were no leaks now, rather than out at a fuel station.

I always fill it till i can see it. This way i know that it is filled to the same point and i can get a very accurate mpg reading.

if you do it that way, you won't be able to average 13 to 15mpg.....

My coach holds 230 gallons so its very hard to keep it full! Like right now, there's only 1/4 tank but it was full at the beginning of the year!

On the MC8, the tank(s) has a fairly large surface area so even a couple of mm difference in fill height - or a couple of degrees difference in the slope of the road can cause a large error in mpg calculations.

My 4104 will take 40gal after the whistle stops for the diesel tank. It has a short filler neck so I fill it right up to the top. I top it off after about 2 weeks of local gigs (350-450 miles)

The gas tank for the generator will take about 2 gallons after the whistle stops. Even with its long filler neck I fill to the top.

I know all about those 5 gallon fuel cans, I've got 2 that I use to grab some fuel when the price dips a couple of cents, nearest fuel is 25 miles away in town, My iggle never learned to whistle, I can't even get a yodel out of it, not very musical I guess.

You may should fill up Ace I dabble a little in the diesel futures they are predicting 50 cents a gallon increase around the first of the year high as a dollar by the end of 2012 hope it doesn't happen but it probably will

The whistle is designed to work right using a typical commercial filling station fuel gun and rate of flow. Mine doesn't work right if I even use a car type filler setup, let alone a 5 gallon can. It depends on air displacement. Yours might be similar.

My filler neck is too long and curved to allow regular fueling at truck stop speeds, it is too slow a feed even with both sides open, so I guess my buss will never cut a musical cd.

Turn the whistle around Niles. You can keep track of your fuel usage by how loud the whistle whistles.

Neither my 4104 or 4107 whistles work.

The first sign of a full tank is diesel on my shoes even though I try to stand as far to the side as possible!!

Gus or John

Do you have a fuel gauge installed right inside the fuel door, my 4107 is wired for it but didn't know if it is common and yes my whistle works, have to get it wet sometimes but it carries a tune....

no, mine doesn't YET, but is going to get one with a illuminated gage with an on off switch for the power source. My 1948 ACF BRILL had one.

I hadn't thot of it but what an idea, after coming home from a trip. Fill with five or ten gallons at a time when a little extra cash or a dip in prices and not driving down for just a few gallons. Thank you good idea. Girly Girl has been setting low on fuel because of questionable brakes.

make sure your container has a long enough neck to reach the fill pipe or it may be difficult to avoid spilling with a full container.

FWIW, camping world sells an "L" shaped funnel or maybe better described as an offset funnel! Makes it easy to get liquids in where a funnel won't fit.

Sam,

Haven't noticed wiring on my tank but will check it now that you bring it up. Never really thought that it would be wired for a gage because they are so rare.

Get any gage that uses the same resistance and voltage that the dash gage uses.Disconnect the wire that goes to the tank unit. Run that wire to center terminal on one side of a double pole-double throw switch.(no center off)Run a wire from one end terminal of the same side of the switch to the sending unit. Run the remaining terminal on that side of the switch to the new fuel gage. Attach voltage feed wire to other center terminal of the switch. Connect the aux. gage positive terminal to the terminal directly across from the other wire that goes to the aux gage. You should now have an empty switch terminal on one side of the opposite end, which will not be used.BTW, if you want illumination, hook that wire to the aux gage positive terminal on the switch. One position of the switch will make the dash gage work as normal. The other position will disconnect the dash gage and allow the aux gage to read and light up if desired.I'm not sure whether two gages pulling from the same sending unit will effect accuracy, hence the switch.
