Has anyone changed the rear brake cans on a 4107 from DD3's to a standard 30/30 readily available brake can. The DD3's are much shorter and not much room to put anything else but with the mechanical ability of bus nuts maybe somebody has found a way to do it. A friend of mine has blown 4 DD3's over the course of 20 years and now has no spare ones left. They are very pricey to replace so just wondering if one of you have found a way to replace them. Thanks for any help on this. Bill |

Bill, I never did that but I did buy two new DD3's from Rebuilders Enterprises. They are pricey, but all new, very good quality, and available off the shelf. Not OEM, though. Just thought I'd mention it. Brian |

Bill, the way I did it on a 4905 was flip the spring brake cans over to the back side (engine side) to the inside of the boxes to clear the trailing arms welded brackets used a longer s cams through flanged bolt on bearings through the boxes 22 bucks ea (1 on each side of the boxes for a total of 4 pretty easy job on a GM if the 4107 is the same as a 4905. good luck |

Thanks Brian. I will let Joe know. Luvrbus. I can't picture just what you did. The 4107 and the 4905 as far as I know are the same. Do you have any pictures? Bill |

I can kinda picture what Clifford is talking about, except the flange bolt through the box part. I, too, would like to see a photo or 2 of this installation. Bob |

Ok I tried the photo thing said it to large,Bob the DD3 attaches to front of those boxes, beams what ever you GM guys call those then the rod runs along the outside of those (on the wheel side) all I did was relocate the cans to the rear weld brackets for the springs, bought new longer s cams welded a bracket on each side of both boxes ran the s cams through the brackets with flanged bearing attached used the same adjusters. The hard part was clearing the stabilizer or trailing arm as I call it I thought about moving those to out side but didn't have enough room with out doing a lot of fab work Good luck |

Clifford, OK. I think I have better picture of what you did. If you still have my email from when I sent you the 4905 engine removal pages from the manual, send me the photos and I'll try to resize and post them. BTW, we "GM Guys" call those boxes, axle beams and the arms, radius rods. Bob (Message edited by wildbob24 on November 04, 2011) (Message edited by wildbob24 on November 04, 2011) |
