Hey guys, I tried to post this earlier this morning and I guess it didn't get through. So anyway, I'll try again. This morning I went out to move the coach to clean it up, and after releasing the brakes the "passenger side tag wheel" would not roll over (turn). Now I'm confused. Does the tag axle have parking brakes? I was thinking that only the drive axle had 'em. I gonna get 'da book' and start reading it as soon as I get this posted. Please remember that my learning curve with a MCI is low right now. We're supposed to be leaving this evening for a singing, but it looks like we'll have to load everything back into the '04 GMC'. Any and all help is greatly appreciated A.S.A.P. Glenn |

try this...warm it up....get up to 120 pounds air pressure....release the parking brake....mash HARD on the brake pedal....then release...then try that baby ,by rocking it a foot forward & let it roll back to where it was... |

Thanks for the info Two Dogs. I tried it like you said and finally got 'em to release. After they released I parked it with the "Parking Brake" and not the "Service Brake". I tried it again and everything worked OK. So until I get it fixed I'll try not to "stand on" the "Service Brakes" to hard. Also, after reading 'da book' I realized that I've got "service brakes" on the tag axle. So now I feel like the cam rolled over. Looks like I'm gonna need a drum or shoes. Like I said earlier, I having to learn this baby from stratch. Thanks, Glenn |

that is the way you are supposed to do it....EVERY TIME....many clutches have been ruined, many brakes have caught on fire...because the brakes were not released properly |

From the MCI manual: Before moving coach: 1. Air pressure gauge must read 100 psi or more. 2. Make a full service brake application. Hold service brake in applied possition. 3. Push parking brake control button down. Parking brake should release. 4. If brakes do not release, reduce air pressure to below 75 psi by pumping brake pedal. Operate engine until compressor cuts out, then repeat above procedure. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BRAKE COACH FREE IF BRAKES FAIL TO RELEASE |

Glenn: You are correct in that the tag has service brakes only - no parking brake. There are a lot of reasons for the service brake not releasing, but has nothing to do with the procedure for releasing the drive axle park brake. Your tag shoes and drums may be badly worn but if you had a cam roll over you would have no brake on that wheel. Anything worn or lacking lubrication in the brake mechanical parts could lock up in the applied position because there are only springs to pull everything back to the released position |
