My 671 in the 04 today suddenly started to idle high at 1200rpm. It will not go back to normal 500/600? I checked the gov it is pulled all the way back. Checked moving the buffer screw around nothing. Anyone have input??

could be the riser bearing in front of the blower where the governor bolts to. Just a guess.

Did you check to make sure your throttle cable is not stuck? Or possibly your peddle is stuck slightly down?

I have ran into this before. The cable gets a little sticky.

John;
There should be a rectangular cover on the side of the blower "snout" with 4---1/4 inch bolts holding the cover on.That cover is about 1 1/2 inch by about 2 inch. You can remove that cover(might have an oil line attached) and see the bearing where it contacts the relay fork. You might notice discoloration of the bearing races or notice some metal flaking. Between the two races is a small ball bearing race with retainer.
hope this helps

Without any excessive black smoke, I'd look for sticky linkage
or what Guy suggested, if it were mine.

No excessive black smoke, so today I will check the rack and gov first for likage problems and then inspect the blower snout bearing. If the blower snout bearing is bad will it be easily seen to be faulty??
Thanks
John
PS Come to think of it the last 4 or 5 time I have driven the coach when I first would put my foot on the throatle it wpould be stiff for the first push, then no problem after that. This happened each time. A warning I guess I did not check.

I had an injector stick on my 04 with 671 and I had the same sympton. To get home I removed the valve cover and re-adjusted the lifter on the sticking valve to allow the engine to return to normal idle.

Gov as far as I can tell looks good. Rack looks good is under tension and or wieghted to drop back to idle when not running with the valve cover off, no spring gone, appears that the slides from the rack to the injectors are all free ( but what do I know I dont really know what a stuck injector looks like ).
Put the cover on started her up SAME PROBLEM. I guess I need to un bolt the cover and inspect the bearing on the blower. Maybe someone can tell us how to check if its a sticking injector??
Thanks

John -

Have you disconnected the throttle cable from the governor housing, and then checked the idle?

RJ No I have not. But the rack seems to drop all the way to low idle with the gov top on and the cable connected. I will take your advice and try that amoungst other things tommorow.
Thanks

I don't know if everyone knows about the DD web site, but here's
a URL for searching for items regarding repair and maintenance:

RJ I disconnected the throttle cable same proble.
I also took the gov off then the shaft going to the blower. The bearing alough still there, it is loose and can move along the shaft, also the cover plate that seems to cover the front of the bearing is also completely loose from it. Also moving around near the opening where the gov forks attach. Should all these components be loose or not, does anyone know? could this be the high idle problem?
Thanks
John

I took the gov, riser bearing and shaft to DDA, They said the bearing is ok moving , but it could do with changing while its appart. What they did find was the shaft was loose and moved back and forth from the end nut. They are going to re assemble with new bearing washers and nuts/lock tight. so it will be tight. This is not gaurenteed to be the problem, but I am glad to have it eliminated for any future problems. more to come including the cost.

Newguy and guy you were correct, I installed everything and the idle goes back to normal. Who would off thought it would have been in the blower prop shaft. I have not taken the coach on the road yet, but the RPM,S are droping back to idle correctly
Thanks GUYS.
John
