I have a '79 mci 9 automatic that the back up lights stay on whenever the ignition is on.Can someone tell me where on the trans. the switch is located or what might the problem be?

I would guess that the reverse switch is stuck.

I looked in my MCI-9 parts manual. 7F-8-214 is given as the part number, listed in the Misc electrical section but there is no key to a drawing.

I looked in the transmission section and the only switch they list/show is the neutral safety switch. Looked in the body section to see if it's co-located with the shifter column and it doesn't show there either.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I believe you will find the reverse switch for the backup lights located on the shifter mechanism in the cockpit. Thanks, DrED

If you have the Allison 740 automatic transmission, it may be a pressure switch in the reverse circuit on the transmision. I am at the fire station now, so I can't go look to see exact location of this switch. That is how our 73 MC-8 back-up lights were operated. I eliminated the OEM back-up lights (not bright enough). I cut 2 holes in the rear bumper and installed a pair of driving lights controlled by a toggle switch on the drivers side panel. This allows the light to be used for connecting in a campground, hitching toad or traile, as well as backing.

sound like a sticky switch where-ever it's located, but I couldn't find it in Da Books for my 96A3 either.
