I have a 1961 4106. My generator light stays on all the time now. I checked my batteries be for I started the bus. They checked 12.5 then I started it they showed 14.5. I turn all the lights and checked it showed 15.5. Then I turn the fast ideal on it showed 17.5 then 16.0 then 17.5 then 16.0 keeps doing that. You can hear the motor going up and down with the change of the meter. What can I do about this please any help would be nice Bob Baldwin PD4106-273 |

The thing I knowest is that the motor sounds different ( kind of like the air compresure kicking in and out ) But this does it every few secounds.I think it will over charge the batteries after seen the volts up to 17.5 |

There is a relay in the rear right electrical compartment. There are 2relays in it. One is to start the bus the other is so you cant engage the starter when the coach is running. Normally when the engine is running the one relay contacts are closed. If the coach is off the contacts drop out and the light comes on. |

There is a relay in the charging circuit by the regulator. When the contracts get dirty or burnt you will get this altenator reaction. Luke had new relays. |

Bob, the light says that your generator is NOT charging but the voltage says that your generator IS charging. That says to me that the relay terminal on the generator is not coming up to voltage or there might be a problem with your starter protection relay. In addition, it seems to me that the voltage is going too high when your engine is running, so the voltage regulator seems to be acting up. I wouldn't be surprised if one fault is causing all these symptoms, but it could be more than one fault. If you continue operating your engine with these problems, it is possible that you could cause some significant damage to your batteries or other parts. If you call Luke at US Coach, he can probably tell you where to look. His number is (888) 262-2434. Let us know what you find out, will you? Thanks. Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576 Suncatcher |
