That poses an interesting question. Does a private coach need ICC lights, cause I didnt plan on putting anyon my crown.(by ICC lights I mean the five lights on the front and back of the coach) |

Yes, they are required on any vehicle over a certain width, which, I believe is around 7 feet. Note that Chevy, Ford and Dodge dually pickup trucks have them, that's about as small a vehicle that they're required on. Your Crown is obviously bigger than a dually! Part of the FMVSS - federal law, applicable in all states. Time to start shopping for some of those new LED marker lights!! HTH, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

R.J. is correct....believe three need to be in the center & kinda together...think the driveing handbook for your particular state would be a place to look......on a funny note...I used to have a 1-ton that had all those lights & at night, oncoming traffic would GIVE me all kinds of room...'cause they sure didn't want a big truck to run over them...guess they were kinda disapointed when a 1-ton went by...I put then on my 3/4 ton suburban & same thing... |

Check out these web sites for more information about the lighting regulations and how they apply to your particular vehicle. http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rulesregs/fmcsr/regs/393.11.htm http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rulesregs/fmcsr/regs/571.108.htm |

3 lights in the middle are "ID Lights". The single outer lights are the "Clearance lights". |

Hi Doug; Regardless of what laws apply, I would think that common sense applies!! If the only lights on the rear of your coach are the tail lights, and you are running down the highway at night and for some reason that electrical circuit fails, then what are you??? You are a big dark wall traveling down the highway that a vehicle running faster than you will run in to!!!! If I were building a Coach, I would want as many running lights on it as possible, so as not to become a target for a tired or pre-occupied driver who decides to run into me!! Just my thought on the matter!! LUKE at US COACH |

Agree with Luke. Lighting requirements, unlike driver licensing requirements, are specific to the size of the vehicle. For a little more on this, http://grote.com/tech/fmvss/bus_chart.html tg |

On my RTS-06, I even added a midship turn signal. I moved the midship clearance light to the wheel pants. I agree, you cannot have enough. My old firestation had a tandem axle snorkel. Backing it into the station it got hit broadside by little old lady. She said she did not see the fire truck. It had twenty two lights just on one side. Needless to say, she did not win in court. Doug, to compare RJ's advice to the generally BS that FF puts out is, in my opinion, ridiculous. |

Doug, if you read that list again http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rulesregs/fmcsr/regs/571.108.htm I think you'll find that it states pretty clearly, which vehicles require what. It looks to me, like you're going to be adding three in the front and rear middle, one at each corner and one at the center on each side, upper and lower. I wouldn't say "more is better", but as Luke pointed out, they're there for safety concerns; why fight it? I'm not happy with the small and single lights at the rear of my MC9 and will be adding more. Likewise, the front would suit me better if I add a few more markers at mid or bumper level and a couple of running lights. The only thing that must be kept in mind, is that every light must function if it's attached. |

Good points all,I think that my experience tells me that a thousand lights won't keep the tired or distracted from running into me.I'm keeping the clearence on the bus and adding a middle stop light to the back of my crown (witch never had a middle clearence light)but the ID lights to me are as useless as the clearance lights.I have also put three marker and directtional lights down the side of my coach.Like I said I'll dig out the info and get back to ya all thanks for the responses |

Go look at a web site with RV's for sale. Yup, every single one of them has the lights. |
