posted on behalf of Scott Crosby, over on the BNO Facebook:

61 gm new look transit - no heat. Any experts have some places to look? I don't think it was ever used or al least in the last 20 years in s. Cal. I opened the red faucet knob above a/c compressor and 4 gal of coolant went somewhere. Adjusted thermostat in floor where the blowers are (does air open or close the valve into the heater core? Anyway don't really know what to check next???

happy coaching!

There is a booster pump in the line, and a valve in both the feed and supply. Don't be fooled, the wires to the pump are quite small gauge.

The pump is sometimes needed for heat. Yes on my 4107, no on my 4104.

Thermostats usually don't work.

Sometimes two valves at firewall. Two on my 4104, one on my 4107.

Better check around to find out for sure where that two gallons went!! This system probably needs to be bled somewhere in the front.

I'm not familiar with transits but most GMs are pretty much the same. Others, more expert, will surely chime in.

The gradustat in the floor controls air to the water valve. "O" psi closes the water valve and max air pressue of 17 psi opens water valve. normal setting is 8 psi for approx 75 degrees inside air temperature. This is adjustable at the pressure regulator located on the right side near the blower motors for the max 17 psi. The 8 psi is controlled by the gradustat. This is done with a 5/32" square key. You need the maintenance manual to see how to do it properly. There is a lot of pages explaining it.
