Has anyone had any experience with fibreglass rosin and ABS Plastic.

I have ABS white water tanks which I have removed because one of them leaks. They have been constructed of 1/4 ABS sheets. I would now like to coat the inside with a fibreglass rosin to prevent leaks....any problems with this?

If it's for potable water (drinking), I'd be real careful about
what the tank is made of, what glue is holding it together and
what substance is lining it. Some of those resins can leach into
the water if the water in it sits too long (like it usually does).
That will not only make it taste bad, but may make you act
stranger than usual.

Have the tank welded. Cheap and simple to do, unless the tank is smashed.

By welded, Jim means plastic welding.

ABS tanks can be constructed using ABS glue, with suitable filleting.

Where has it cracked? I think an immediate "item of interest" would be the 1/4" wall thickness. Maybe a leak repair and reinforce the ABS by an exterior plywood box? There's plenty of approaches to this but would need more detail.

I agree with the advice to repair the ABS rather than lining with fiberglass. You'd be better off rebuilding from fiberglass than lining the existing ABS.

I too would reccomend welding the tank and not adding a lining. Hot air welders are all that is needed. You can buy one at Harbor Freight for about $35. They even give you a few filler rods.

why not just use the standard abs solvent that is used to build tanks? you can get it from plastic supply places or hobby shops.
