The RVAmerica insurance advertisement on The Board's home page is a little misleading. It says they will accept incomplete conversions, so I emailed to get a quote. The answer was they will only accept professional conversions and the incomplete means while it is in the professional's shop. I don't think that situation applies to very many on this board. Just thought I would pass along the information. Tom Hamrick Eagle 10S (incomplete) |

Tom, I use RV Alliance. of Washington. They advertise in Bus Conversions Magazine. They are a broker and deal with Progressive and Royal Insurance Companies. Both of which will cover incomplete conversions being built by the likes of Busnuts. Peter. |

Ihave had my liability with this flaky outfit since '97, and that is about the best I can say for them. Their so-called agreed value is just that---their value and you agree or take a hike. Their appraisal came in 45% less than the 2 professional appraisals I had. After much bantering back and forth, they agreed to raise their appraisal a whole 12%. Even with that increase, their appraisal was for less than just the cost of materials to do the conversion, with receipts, and included none of my labor (which I partially agree with) nor the labor of other skilled craftsmen I paid for doing various parts. I finally reasoned, maybe flawed, that if I was going to lose money on a total loss, I may as well lose it all and not pay them to screw me around when and if the day came that I had a claim. I know others who have them that are satisfied, but I know of no one who hasn't had a hassle from them at one time or another. And their little gimmick of re-appraisal every 3 yrs. is a real rip-off, not to mention that they change appraisers and methods every other year or so. Without getting into the comp. and collision, just compare their liability prices against any other of about 1/2 dozen national insurance companies that will cover a private bus, and u will find that they are higher than any of them. I think another factor is the agent u happen to get. I see many people claim that they have coll. & comp. from State Farm and Good Sam, etc. All have told me that they don't cover "home brews" for coll. & comp. Go figure. Oh well, shells are cheap now, so I figure if I lose this one, I'll buy another one and do it faster and better, having gained from the experience of having done one and the many acquiantances in the busnut bunch that I now know. I'm imbedding twinkle lights in the ceiling of the next one and I dont care what my wife thinks of the idea! |

I have liability coverage with State Farm, but the agent said no bus conversions for comp and collision. I will probably wait until completion to get full coverage. Tom Hamrick Eagle 10S |

JMaxwell, which flaky outfit are you referring to in your post? Scott P.S. GMAC wants pics, receipts and all that hooghie later on if I want the comp. and fire. All I need right now is liability since I don't want to go thru the bother when it is only half done - and then have to go thru it all again later when the conversion is 'done'. |
