I need to purchase a tow bar. I will be pulling a jeep grand cherokee. I have never used one before. What should I look for in a tow bar. They are out there with a huge price range from 50.00 to 1000. |

jeep grand cherokee Get one that excides the weight of the vehicle by at least 50%. Many folks carry junk in their towd's, and the next one might be even heavier. Blue OX is an OK brand , there are many others, FF |

Cory, We tow our Grand Cherokee with a Roadmaster brand (Stowmaster 5000 model). This towbar stays on the car (as opposed to some models that stay on the coach). We found ours used at www.hitchtrader.com We found the towbar in one ad and the mounting brackets (make & model specific) in another ad. Roadmaster and Blue Ox seem to be the 2 most popular brands. Jack PS: Our Grand Cherokee weighs 3700# (Message edited by JackConrad on December 20, 2011) |

Cory we have a Blue Ox "Advanta" model. It stays on the coach which is a huge plus. We have towed VW Jettas, Explorers, and currently an Explorer Sporttrack. Most have had the "invisible" car mounted base plates. (A plus cause my wife would not tolerate a tow bar visible on her car all the time.) The heaviest vehicle was about 5K lbs. We use the bar on our bus but also towing one of the cars with my pickup (it fits any 2" receiver). I can have the towed vehicle off the bus in under 2 minutes which is great when you pull into a dead end or a place too small to circle without backing up. Have had 2 of these so far & would buy one again. I buy on the exchange website ( http://www.hitchtrader.com/ )when I can find what I need to save $$ & help someone clear out unneeded stuff. |
