Hi. Doing a conversion on a 40ft flex transit. Has anybody done a couch over a rear wheel well that will convert into a bed? Kind of like a futon.. thanks Hap |

How tall are your wheelwells? Gary |

If the height of your bed doesn't work out with anything off the shelf, you could consider building a plywood box over the well and mounting a bed mechanism to it. You could also hinge the box vertically to give some squirel-away space for small items. Brian Brown GMC Fishbowl T8H-5305-021 http://www.browncowpro.com/bus/ |

My wheelwells are 12" high, If I converted a foldout or hideabed to fit over it, the seating height would have been way too high. I have noticed that with my air all the way down, I have about 5" over the top of the tire. when I re-lay the subfloor I may build new wheelwells. Gary |

Is there any easy way to measure the actual suspension travel with your transit? Reason I ask is that the high wheel wells may be there for a reason. Maybe they decided that being able to install tire chains in the winter was important or something. But...most likely your RV conversion will be quite light when completed soosss you can safely cut down the height of the wells. Good luck. |

When it's resting on the blocks, there's no more travel left. I'm not going lower than a couple of inches above the tires when the suspension is down. It's a lot of work for three inches, however, that's enough to make room for my couches. (BTW I was the guy that made the fenderwells for country coach for a time....) Gary |

I have twin beds over my rear wheelwells with fresh tanks, 35 gal. ea. behind each wheelwell cover. Do not cut them down. Grumman/Flx made them 18" high for proper clearance. I think u have 2" clearance with no air. |
