I have '74 GMC 4905 24 volt system would like to charge the house batteries off the 24 volt engine generator. Need a voltage reducer off the 24 volt generator for the house supply, charge line, and inverter?? Would also like to run 110 volt refrigerator off the inverter, how large inverter do I need?? Thanks for any information Dale B. http://gmc4905busnut.homestead.com/homepage.html |

Consider a 24 volt house system with an equallizer. I switched my Prevost to that and was very happy on the last trip. The Equalizer will keep both batteries equally charged in a 24 volt system so you can draw 12 volts from the 12 volt terminal without getting the batteries out of balance. Also, if you are not keeping the bus AC you do no need the 2 D batteries for starting. You can use them for house batteries. I start mine on two group 31 batteries. You can get 24 volt DC to 120volt AC inverters and run your frig and other 120 volt stuff off the 24 volt terminal. You have 270 amps of 24 volt output from your alternator. Why not take advantage of it. Steve Fessenden |

THE two 8D ARE required for starting ,when it gets cold. Da DD Book has a requirement that is temp dependent. I can vouch that at 20F with no block heater , and good batts , the DD still spins slowley , and can handle a touch of ether for the first try. NEVER NEVER use ether on an engine thats warm.
