A score for someone. I am not affiliated with the seller - I had been talking to this guy for the last few days and have determined that it is too much of a project for me, so I'm posting the info here so that some eagle nuts might be aware of it, and hope someone might buy it that has the time and money to restore it rather than let it sit and rust, or scrap it.

I haven't seen one, and hardly any photos of one, but now here's a youtube video of this one:
http://youtu.be/mcYK15exXKk

The current owner claims to have traveled all over texas in it, so it's roadworthy.

and here's the CL ad with a few good pictures:

Hey Scott,

Try to get him to sign up for the Classifieds and he'll have a better shot at selling it! Also, my guess is the price is right in the ballpark if it's nice and clean!

I'm concerned that all 4 pix are 3/4 shots from its front right, though. You may ask him to pop a couple of others.

Thanks!

Ian, I recommended to him that he buy a classified. Appreciate all you do. Hope you keep a backup of these forums... Would hate to see this wealth of knowledge lost to a hard drive failure or something. (I run an internet datacenter in Portland).

Every day, Scott, on redundant servers :-)

And just to clarify for the fellow you've been chatting to, there is no charge for leaving an ad in the Classifieds!

On second glance, the video speaks volumes. It looks a little dated inside and there is a lot of wear and tear up in the wheel wells at the front. Curiously, there were no motion pictures of the rear, where the aft bulkhead can break away effectively turning a once beautiful coach into scrap metal.

Advice to anyone looking: As always, take a diesel mechanic and a bus guy who's familiar with structure to examine this (or any) coach. Don't fall in love with that golden finish on the exterior. And negotiate hard, feigning indifference ;-)

Watch that video.

Bless his heart!

That's Southern for, "What an Idiot".

Either he's a used car salesman or has no earthly idea of what that scrap pile is worth. (Every day it's worth less as scrap because they won't sweep the rust off the ground).
It looks like the breast plate and windshield center bar are toast.
His statement, "Eagle used bondo on everything" kind of got me. Many mfg's used bondo to cover minor problems, but not 1/4" (6.35mm) thick! I worked for a guy that was old school Cubano and used lead on everything, He said he was taught to do that at the Chevrolet training school in the early 1950's.
Rust out around every panel covering the old windows.
He doesn't even open all the bay doors. One that he does open he won't open enough to let you see in.

I know I want too much for my bus at $5K... but structurally it's in much better condition and for the extra $13,OOO you could do a lot of upgrades.
For $4K someone would have been well off to buy the Model 01 at Choo-Choo Express.

Bless his heart!!! ;)

I sure hope the new owner has very deep pockets! It's only worth what the buyer is willing to pay and by the looks of it the owner might have to rethink about his asking price. Then expect to not sell it even then.

Plan on lots of exterior work and ripping out the interior and starting over. And that's just the beginning. Not knowing the mechanical s is scary. Not a whole lot of front torsalastic adjustment left.

I could go on and on but I'm getting tired!

Ok, both you guys were way more gentle than me, admittedly, but for an almost 50year old piece of rolling metal, she's going to look like she's been kicked around a few times :-)

As usual, 5k for the engine. Another 5k for the tranny. Only if they're both working. A couple thou for the rest of it. Will it ever look like Dave Galey's old Model 05? Doubtful. But look at the hobby. What do we do? It'd be nice to see that siding all polished up bright again.

I know, I'm nuts. I admit it.

:~)
