Hi Gang,

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later, but the rubber weatherstrip for the rear window on my 4104 has finally disintegrated enough that it now needs replacing. (It started to fall out!)

I have a NOS window weatherstrip, and I need to know if it fits correctly: When I place it around the large pane of glass, it is sloppy loose. Is this the way it should be? I would have thought it would be a stretch-to-fit kind of thing.

Also, what is the correct method for replacing the window set. Do you put all three windows in the weather seal, and use the 1/4 inch rope trick to pull the seal edge past the window flange, or is there a better method?

Thanks!

when you put rubber around the glass ,it should not be a sloppy fit, should have to pull & stretch it on,from your discription, souds like you have the wrong rubber, suggest LUKE for correct rubber..and,suggest haveing a glass shop install them for you,why ? cause ,if you break one,it will cost you more than the glass guy charges....just my opinion...and I'd do them all at once,if you have three back there,do'em all..

The small "D" windows on each side of the rear large center window.
They are different part numbers the r/h & l/h will not interchange.
The trademark goes to the bottom of the window glass.
So be careful when reinstalling the windows don't get them on the wrong side.
You might have a rear window seal for a PD4106 it's larger than a PD-4104 window seal.
Also make sure you have the rubber lock bead for the seal.
No need to use 1/4" rope use the nylon instlation tool to install the glass in the seal.
Luke has the proper tool the kit for sale.

Thanks guys!

I was pretty sure that the rubber should be a tight fit with the center glass. I'll give Luke a call, and get the right one. The one I have came with the bus, so I have no idea what it is really for. It is actually shaped like a Roman Numeral II, with a split in the parts that go around the D shaped windows. It would seem to me that that split would complicate things, but maybe not.

Chuck,
Great Idea to get it from Luke. What I would also recomend, is have an expert replace it. Cause the replacesment rear center glass on our 4104,s are very hard to find and very expensive..
Just a though

Chuck,

By all means, check with LUKE to see that you have the proper size channel. If the channel fails due to poor fit the rear windows can take flight while driveing down the road.

Also, Luke is looking for a good channel for the 4106 rear window to use as aa pattern to have some made. The 4106 rear window channel is no longer available anywhere.

Hi All,

So what are the dimensions of the *4106* rear center window? I would guess that the rubber I have (allegedly for a 4104) would be a better fit for a window that was about 2 inches taller, and perhaps 2 inches longer. Then it would be a stretch to fit.

For what it's worth, the NOS rubber I have is the same grey color as the rubber that was in my 4104.

Sounds like a PD-4106 window seal in gray rubber so it's got to be a very old seal.
Get a new seal and lock bead from Luke.
The center rear window and 2 small "D"s for a 4104
are very hard to locate.
Used and in good condition a wild guess on my part for the set $500.00
$300 for the center and $100 each for the "D"s = $500.00.

If I hadn't seen the center window slip down, right before my eyes, my 4104 would be yet another with the blacked out rear windows. I knew that the rubber was hanging on by a thread, as virtually all of the outside rubber flap was gone, but since my 4104 is just a yard queen right now, I figured it would be ok until I began restoration... apparently not so!

Judging by the work I have seen the various glazier's do on cars, and the fact that there is no way any glass shop would be willing to replace these windows if they broke them, I think I'll do the work myself.

Last Rear D windows I sold were used and brought 150.00 each......new would bring in the 300.00 range with near 1000.00 for the center piece.

pricely but supply demand takes hold.

Windshields for a flxliner or highlevel/VL are 900.00 each and may not fit just right from new

NOTE......do not use grey rubber for anything that needs to be held onto the coach......it has a very short lifespan

I used a liquid dish washing detergent and water for the window instlation on my P8M4905A.
Go-Jo has petroleum products in it and that might be harmful to the rubber seal.
PPG will have the nylon tool for the window instlation you will need 2 of them.
Also Snap-On Tools has the tool for the lock bead instlation this tool makes it a easy job to install the lock bead.
