I have been having some trouble getting my 4106 in gear after it is warm. There is a small amount of free pedal and the problem doesn't show up when the oil is cold. It is a twin dry disc setup, I think. It's no problem if I am coming to a stop, but it really slows me down rolling it into gear if it has been setting idling in neutral for a bit. It gives trouble about 2 times out of 3 when it is acting up. Do these sometimes get oil on the discs?

Thanks for any tips. Tom Caffrey PD4106-2576

IF you are at a stop and have the tranny in first , , with your foot on the clutch all the time
then slip back into neutral for 30 seconds or so
and when you go into first, there is NO grinding , the clutch is not dragging.

IF it is difficult , but no grinding , its normal as the HEAVY flywheel and tranny guts need to align with fairly square cut teeth .

Is this your problem?

Fast Fred, I didn't try exactly what you suggest in your post; what happens is that sometimes the parts slow down fairly quickly, say 10 to 15 seconds or so, and sometimes they refuse to slow down, so that I have to roll the gears in by gradually applying increasing pressure on the gearshift lever until finally the gears engage.

Come to think of it, I believe that I've have the gears speed up when I have quit trying to roll them in and then having to start all over again. Several times, I noticed that after getting the coach rolling, it seemed to get worse at the next intersection.

Naturally, one of my concerns was that the clutch discs might have been bent when they were installed, but I would think that dragging from that cause should be lessened as the clutch gets worn in.

Right now, our bus is in Washington (we live in Alaska) for some upgrades, so I can't go out and check it out.
