The queen mattress bed on a pedestal in the bus bedroom is too heavy to easily lift. Even though it is hinged at the back, it is still too heavy. That makes access to the storagae area difficult. A search of the archives reveals that gas-filled springs or lifts might be a viable solution. However, I could not find a source or specifics on length, lifting weight, etc. Can someone suggest a source for the right stuff?

Thank you!

Jim, napa has a good lift for about 50 bucks each that you might like, the napa part number is #819-5539, from the hinge set the upper mount 33 inches and the lower mount 20.5, or adjust to suit yourself.

Austinhardware.com...they will furnish a recommended length and mounting position depending on your requirements (weight, etc).

if you lift the bed a little put a scale between the bed bottom and pedestal, that may be helpful to know what poundage you will be dealing with. Remember the angle of the struts when closed and open, and how far back toward the hinge is going to effect the needed support rating and range of motion. Would be nice if NAPA or another strut supplier would let you try several ratings and return the ones that didn't work. How about one or two powered linear actuators? They sell reasonable on Ebay at times. Maybe getting a couple of used ones from a salvage yard would be feasable.

John I like your idea of the powered linear actuators, with those i could throw my handy man Jack away or his comments.

Sam our is electric 12 volt. It screws to the floor under the Bed it will lift 400 lbs. It has 1 1-1/2" ram and connects to a 1x1 aluminum aloy bar at the back when up. The lower end of that connected to the bottom bar and the top has a nepren wheel ( like a skate board wheel) on it. We push a toggle on the wall and up she goes even with 3 cats on it. They are so used to it they don't even move anymore. HTH

Thanks to all of you that responded! Bed lifts are installed and they work great! Thanks Cody for the NAPA part numbers. They were exactly what I needed. Pics will soon be posted at our bus blog:

Glad it worked ok for you jim, got a lifetime of sawdust behind me and maybe still a little bit ahead of me. I kinda prefer the simple approach, pretty much old fashioned here, still kinda like dovetailed drawers and mortice and tenoned doors, got a box full of busted power actuators from people that changed back to a plain low maintanence strut. Just a dinosaur here.
