I finally have the XL in the busbarn, and if the problem is what Cliff suggested (cracked head) can a head be removed and reinstalled without taking the engine partway out and have it supported on a gurney. Not sure which is the easier way to go. Looking for advise from some that may have done it. |

It is not a hard job Joe I use a little shop crane Prevosts have a lot more room than a Eagle. You will need a set of head guides to reinstall you can buy those from www.monacotool.com for 30 dollars if the link doesn't work Monaco Tools fwiw I would not try and make the guides from head bolts. The torque and turn method on the head is almost impossible to do with the engine in the bus so I use 230/250 ft lbs works for me good luck (Message edited by luvrbus on January 15, 2012) (Message edited by luvrbus on January 15, 2012) (Message edited by luvrbus on January 15, 2012) |

Cliff Finally got the oil pan off. It took a few days for the gooye mess to drain out of the oilpan. I collected about 16 gallons. I have some fibre pieces in the oilpan, and looked in the manual to see where they might have come from, but I am not sure as yet. Would appreciate a call, my number is in the profile. Thanks Joe. |

Joe, I'm not sure how far you are planning to go with your repair but if you had lots of coolant in your oil, I would check the bearings. The coolant can cause the babbitt to fail and leave gaps in the bearing surface. The mains especially. I hope everything works out ok. Donnie Daugherty Enterprise Alabama PD4106-2772 |
